Reactions 1321 - 2 Oct 2010 S Oxcarbazepine Hepatitis: case report An 8-year-old girl started receiving oxcarbazepine twice daily, 10 mg/kg/day [route not stated] for partial epilepsies. Fourteen days later, she presented with a 2-day history of malaise and poor appetite and a 1-day history of fever. On admission it was noted that she had acute hepatitis with pharyngitis. She received supportive care and IV fluids. Oxcarbazepine was withdrawn and she started receiving levetiracetam. On day 4 of hospitalisation, her liver enzymes had improved and her symptoms had resolved. She was discharged in a stable condition. Author comment: "We conclude that oxcarbazepine was directly responsible for the present patient’s liver function impairment." Hsu H-F, et al.
