Reactions 1266 - 22 Aug 2009 S Oxcarbazepine Stevens-Johnson syndrome: case report A 53-year-old man with epilepsy, whose seizures were inadequately controlled on valproic acid, started receiving oxcarbazepine [dosage not stated] on 9 July 2007. On 20 July, he developed a sore throat, injected eyes and lip erosions; high fever and erythematous skin rashes appeared the following day. On presentation, widespread, confluent erythematous macules and papules, and numerous flat atypical targetoid lesions were evident on his face, neck, trunk and proximal upper extremities. Other findings included diffuse oral erosions and bilateral conjunctivitis. Stevens-Johnson syndrome was diagnosed. An oxcarbazepine-induced reaction was suspected, and genotyping then revealed the presence of the HLA-B*1502 allele. [Treatment and outcome not stated.] Chen Y-C, et al.
