The man, who had generalised idiopathic epilepsy, started receiving oxcarbazepine 150mg twice daily; his seizures were subsequently controlled at a dose of 300mg twice daily [route not stated]. One week after starting treatment, he developed a skin reaction on his left arm. The man’s oxcarbazepine dose was immediately reduced, and he started receiving topiramate. In 5 days, the skin reaction became more serious. He had an eroded erythematous plaque on his arm measuring 8cm × 5cm. He was diagnosed with fixed drug eruption, and he was prescribed mometasone. Oxcarbazepine was discontinued, and he recovered within 1 week. Author comment: "In this article, a serious skin reaction associated with [oxcarbazepine] is highlighted. . . According to the Naranjo algorithm that determines the probability of connection between drug and adverse drug reaction, the observed adverse effect is possibly connected with [oxcarbazepine]."
