Reactions 1361 - 23 Jul 2011 S Lorazepam Respiratory distress: case report A 46-year-old woman started receiving lorazepam [route and dosage not stated] for catatonia. On 29 November 2009, she was found to be in severe respiratory distress, thought to be due to oversedation with lorazepam [time to reaction onset not clearly stated]. She was transferred to an ICU, and all psychiatric medications were stopped. Sputum analysis revealed a multidrug- resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection, and she received antibiotics. However, she developed thrombocytopenia and her antibiotics were stopped. She was stabilised in the ICU and was subsequently transferred to a rehabilitation facility. Pustilnik S, et al.
