Reactions 1391 - 3 Mar 2012 S Carbamazepine Anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome: case report A 54-year-old woman presented with a skin eruption, generalised pruritus, pyrexia and oral mucosal lesions in addition to slight scleral jaundice [time to reaction onset not stated]. She was receiving carbamazepine 250mg 2 x 1 pills per day [route not stated], which had been administered for 4 months to treat psychotic depression. Tests revealed elevated AST in addition to bilirubinaemia and basophilia. Skin biopsy and patch testing were performed. Carbamazepine was withdrawn, and steroids were initiated.
