Sexual function disorders in adolescents: incidencestudy
An Indian study found that severe damage to germinalepithelium occurred in adolescent boys with Hodgkin’sdisease who received antineoplastic therapy duringprepubertal development.
26 boys (median age 12 years) were treated with at least 3cycles of combination therapy with COPP or MOPP. MOPPtherapy comprised mechlorethamine, prednisolone, procarbazine, and vincristine, while in the COPP regimen, cyclophosphamide replaced mechlorethamine. Gonadalfunctions, including gonadal function history, semen analysis, and hormonal assays, were assessed after the development ofsecondary sexual characteristics.
Results showed azoospermia and elevated follicle-stimulating hormone and inhibin production in 18/26evaluable patients. Damage to seminiferous tubules wasidentified in testicular biopsies from 2 patients.Dhabhar BN, et al. Gonadal function in prepubertal boys following treatment forHodgkin’s disease.
