The patient had received prednisone, vincristine, asparaginase, mercaptopurine, methotrexate, cytarabine and hydrocortisone as remission induction and maintenance therapy. Consolidation therapy consisted of 6 courses of methotrexate and asparaginase. Antibiotic therapy reduced the size of the nodule but the lesion persisted. A diagnosis of bacillary angiomatosis was confirmed by results of a biopsy and several laboratory investigations. Erythromycin was administered and the lesion resolved completely within the next 6 weeks. Author comment: ‘We report herein what we believe to be the first case of bacillary angiomatosis in childhood and the first fully documented case occurring during chemotherapy for malignancy.’ Myers SA, et al.
