Reactions 1343 - 19 Mar 2011 S Antineoplastics Fatal hepatitis B reactivation: case report A 50-year-old man with occult hepatitis B was diagnosed with B cell lymphoma and received IV rituximab 375 mg/m 2 , cyclophosphamide 750 mg/m 2 , doxorubicin 50 mg/m 2 and vincristine 2mg on day 1, and prednisone 40 mg/m2 on days 1 to 5. He achieved complete remission after three cycles. Ten days after the fourth cycle, he experienced anorexia and exhaustion, and presented with jaundice, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. His liver function progressively worsened and laboratory investigations revealed hepatitis B reactivation. Entecavir was initiated but his viral load increased, and he developed fulminant hepatitis. He underwent orthotopic liver transplantation but died of liver failure and hepatorenal syndrome. Zhang B, et al.
