Fatal hepatitis B reactivation: case reportA 50-year-old man with occult hepatitis B was diagnosed
with B cell lymphoma and received IV rituximab375 mg/m2, cyclophosphamide 750 mg/m2, doxorubicin50 mg/m2 and vincristine 2mg on day 1, and prednisone40 mg/m2 on days 1 to 5. He achieved complete remissionafter three cycles. Ten days after the fourth cycle, heexperienced anorexia and exhaustion, and presented withjaundice, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. His liver functionprogressively worsened and laboratory investigationsrevealed hepatitis B reactivation. Entecavir was initiated buthis viral load increased, and he developed fulminanthepatitis. He underwent orthotopic liver transplantationbut died of liver failure and hepatorenal syndrome.Zhang B, et al.
