My countryPoland is a country in Central Europe. It borders with Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine and Belarus to the east and the Baltic Sea, Russia and Lithuania to the north. It’s the 9th largest country in Europe. With a population of over 38.5 million people, it’s the sixth most populous member of the European Union.

Poland has a beutiful and natural environment. In the north, it reaches the Baltic Sea with its beautiful sandy beaches and busy harbors. The north-east area which is occupied by more than 2000 lakes is a destination for sailing and canoeing.

Along the southern border stretch the mountains. They offer wonderful hiking and skiing opportunities.

About one-fifth of the territory of Poland is maintained as fields, pasture and meadows. Forests cover 27% of the total area.

Polish cuisine is very traditional. It’s rich in meat, vegetables and spices. It uses noodles and potatos. It’s also common to use cream and eggs. The Polish national dishes are bigos (cabbage and meat stew), pierogi (dumplings with stuffing), sausage, kotlet schabowy (pork chop), gołąbki (cabbage rolls). Cucumber, mushroom, and tomato soups are polular in the polish cuisine. We also eat żurek, rosół (broth), barszcz (beetroot soup) and chłodnik (cold soup).
