plebiscyt dla projektantów na Łódź Design Festival
// about
make me! contest
The international make me! competition is one of the most influential and innovative events in the field of product design in Europe and a key event of the Lodz Design Festival. The key purpose of the contest is to identify new trends, brave ideas and support those young people who are ready to compete and come up with interesting ideas. The finalists of previous editions emphasize the new opportunities opened to them: presence at additional exhibitions and mentions in publications. Consequently, they get better recognition and an easier start in the design community. The competition, which has been carried out since 2008, is addressed to designers, makers, students and graduates, especially from art and design disciplines. To all those that are impulsively triggered to design when noticing a need or problem. In make me! projects that experiment with material or seek new interpretations of existing functions are also awarded. Submitted works are evaluated in two stages by a specially-selected jury with diversified interests. Thanks to the presentation of projects at the exhibition open to the public and contacts with experts, make me! can be a springboard for further professional development.

Each of the final projects is awarded with the statuette of a project by Bartosz Mucha, the winner of make me! 2008. Bartosz uses his unique humor to create his designs, denying the usual patterns given to everyday objects, which is why the statuettes received an additional door lock function. Made entirely of beech wood, manufactured by Stanclik. Most of all I wanted the statuette not to be just a <dust-gatherer>. So after the awards ceremony it should have some practical and functional status in the prize- home. I remembered an anecdote which I had read or heard with regard to what happened to the famous Hollywood Oscar. Allegedly, in case of some artist it ended up as a doorstopper and it inspired me. So I designed the statuette in such a way as to make it clear that it could be used like that. I was also attracted by the perverse character of that idea, i.e. the degradation of the object.
