Eruptive lentiginosis: case reportA 35-year-old woman developed eruptive lentiginosis

after treatment with CHOP chemotherapy. The woman had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s

lymphoma, and received six 3-weekly cycles of CHOP(cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and oralprednisolone [dosages not stated]). Six weeks afterstopping chemotherapy, she developed multipleasymptomatic brownish macules over photoprotectedareas of all four limbs. Physical examination showedmultiple, discrete, non-scaly, brownish, flat, stellatemacules of uniform colour and approximately 1–3mm insize, distributed over her arms and legs. The mucosae, palms and soles were not affected. There were no systemicabnormalities. Histological evaluation showed an increasednumber of cells in the basal layer, strongly positive forS-100 and HMB-45. These cells did not encroach into theepidermis or dermis, and did not form nests, which wasconsistent with a diagnosis of eruptive lentigines.

The woman was advised to take protective measuresagainst exposure to ultraviolet light, and is receiving regularfollow-ups to monitor progression of the lesions.

Author comment: "As our patient was 35 years old anddeveloped a large number of lentigines, without a history ofsuch lesions and with a positive temporal correlation withcancer chemotherapy, we believe that the lentigines weresecondary to immunosuppression associated with thechemotherapy."De D, et al.
