Reactions 1306 - 19 Jun 2010 Antineoplastics Eruptive lentiginosis: case report A 35-year-old woman developed eruptive lentiginosis after treatment with CHOP chemotherapy. The woman had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and received six 3-weekly cycles of CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and oral prednisolone [dosages not stated]). Six weeks after stopping chemotherapy, she developed multiple asymptomatic brownish macules over photoprotected areas of all four limbs. Physical examination showed multiple, discrete, non-scaly, brownish, flat, stellate macules of uniform colour and approximately 1–3mm in size, distributed over her arms and legs. The mucosae, palms and soles were not affected. There were no systemic abnormalities. Histological evaluation showed an increased number of cells in the basal layer, strongly positive for S-100 and HMB-45. These cells did not encroach into the epidermis or dermis, and did not form nests, which was consistent with a diagnosis of eruptive lentigines. The woman was advised to take protective measures against exposure to ultraviolet light, and is receiving regular follow-ups to monitor progression of the lesions. Author comment: "As our patient was 35 years old and developed a large number of lentigines, without a history of such lesions and with a positive temporal correlation with cancer chemotherapy, we believe that the lentigines were secondary to immunosuppression associated with the chemotherapy."
