Various toxicities: case reportA 60-year-old man developed various toxicities during

treatment with docetaxel, cisplatin and gimeracil/oteracil/tegafur [S-1] for gastric cancer.

The man was diagnosed with highly advanced stage IIIBgastric cancer. Chemotherapy was commenced with IVdocetaxel 40 mg/m2 and cisplatin 60 mg/m2 on day 1 andoral gimeracil/oteracil/tegafur 80 mg/m2 on days 1–14,followed by a 2-week rest period. Surgery was performedafter two courses. During chemotherapy, he developedgrade 3 leukocytopenia and neutropenia, and grade 1 hairloss [outcomes not stated].

Ten days after surgery, the man was discharged withoutpostoperative complications. Adjuvant chemotherapy withgimeracil/oteracil/tegafur was started, but he developedgrade 3 appetite loss after one course and S-1 was thereforediscontinued [outcome not stated]. Six months aftersurgery, peritoneal recurrence occurred and he died2 months later.
