VARPACT : Energy EfficiencyGive Oxygen to your electrical network Power Factor Correction and Filtering means energy savings : it allows

to use your transformer (installation) at its maximum efficiency and to stop the system losses :

Power Factor Correction and Filtering decreases voltage drops, avoids the overload of the network, and allows the diminution of harmonics so that you will not have to overrate your installation.

Power Factor Correction means cost savings : it allows to erase your reactive power invoice if the utilities of your country is applying penalties

VARPACT : installation

Give the right specifications VARPACT can be installed in all the following type of banks :

Prisma, Prisma Plus Universal

Horizontal mounting in functional or universal bank, depth D = 400 or 500 mm :

in cubicle (width W=600 mm), using fastening crosspieces in cubicle (width W=650, 700, 800 mm), using fastening

crosspieces and extension pieces

Vertical fastening every 300 mm (5 modules maximum) directly to cubicles uprights using sliding crosspieces or to intermediate upright support.

Control circuit power supply : 230V, 50 Hz

VARPACT modules allow to assemble a power factor correction cubicle quickly and easily :

Connection points are decreased

Bus bars option --> Easier installation (connection)

Logistic : 1 unique product to order instead of many products (capacitors, wires, contactors, protection…)

You don ’t need to have an engineering department to calculate the right components to use (wires size…)

Fastening crosspieces to install VARPACT in the cubicle

VARPACT is tested at 100% inside the manufacturing plant

VARPACT : Give simplicity to the Panel Builders

Page 21: VARPACT

VARPACT : Give peace of mind to End Users

Life duration of VARPACT is 15 years (130 000 hours)

The modules are tested at 100% in the manufacturing plant (following IEC standards).

Decrease of hot points on the module, and decrease of the temperature inside cubicles compare to P400 modules.

Losses reduction = less overheating = more power inside 1 cubicle : 600 kvar / column for the Classic range (450 kvar in the past) 450 kvar / column for the Comfort range (405 kvar in the past) 250 kvar / column for the Harmony range (like in the past)

Insulation reinforced on VARPACT

External : insulation reinforced All the insulation distances are 2 times bigger than necessary for

the using voltage of products (following IEC 664-1 standards) : it erase all the risks to have local insulation losses.

Protection against direct contact thanks to the protection covers.

Internal : insulation of internal wires (inside the module) have been reinforced

Wires have a high insulation withstand (Ui=1000V) Temperature conditions are much lower than the using limits All risks of contacts between wires and active part are eliminated.

No maintenance during the first 5 years

After 5 years, we advise you to measure the capacitance value of VARPACT to keep the maximum efficiency for your installation.

No corrosion thanks to the plastic envelop of the VARPLUS² capacitors.

Safety of the operator during the maintenance operation thanks to the internal discharge resistor.

Protection against direct contacts during the maintenance thanks to the protection plate.

Using of the new VARPLUS² technology :

A new production line fully automated especially designed for VARPLUS²

Mechanical resistance of the enclosure has multiplied by 2 High quality protection system :

VARPACT is the one to use this technology, allowing to prevent 100% of the eventual defaults.

Robots for high qualityAutomatic controls at each step of the production

VARPACT : Give safety to the End Users

VARPLUS² : protection systemGive safety to End Users

Against internal defaults (with a low current), thanks to the overpressure system

Dielectric losses its self healing propertiesGas pressure increases slightly and reaches the below. The below riseThe metallic disc short circuits the terminals across the fuse. The faulty capacitor is out of service.

Against external defaults (with high current), thanks to the HRC fuse

The fuse protects against high current faults > I fuse

It operates for high current short time faults

Page 26: VARPACT

The consumed energy has been decreased compare to the P400 modules :

P400 standard = 2,5 Watt/kvar

VARPACT Classic :

– < 1,9 Watt/kvar (without bus bars)

– < 2,3 Watt/kvar (with bus bars)

VARPACT Comfort :

– < 2 Watt/kvar (without bus bars)

– < 2,4 Watt/kvar (with bus bars)

VARPLUS² used inside VARPACT is ROHS compliant (Restriction Of Hazardous Substances). It means that VARPLUS² doesn’t contain any substances with concentrations exceeding the limits fixed by the ROHS Organism.

Involvement to the environment (ISO 14001) :

VARPACT is a dry technology : free of liquids.

VARPACT : Give involvement to the environment

Retrofit kits exist. It allows to replace former modules by VARPACT in the following case :

Retrofit kit to replace a P400 module by a VARPACT module inside a Prisma or Prisma Plus cubicle

Retrofit kit to replace a P400 SAH module by a VARPACT module inside a Prisma or Prisma Plus cubicle

Retrofit kit to replace a P400 module by a VARPACT module inside a Rectimat2

VARPACT : Give a fully compatibility with P400 modules
