The fetus’ mother, a 32-year-old woman, was continuously receiving topiramate 100mg and oxcarbazepine 300mg following a brain operation 2 years previously [frequencies and routes not stated]. She was admitted at 17 weeks’ gestation, and ultrasound of the fetus revealed severe oligohydramnios, pericardiac fluid collection, cardiomegaly, lower extremity limb defects, a cleft lip and palate, an absent right kidney and a dysplastic left kidney. She underwent a cordocentesis procedure, and abortion was medically induced. Autopsy of the fetus additionally revealed absence of the left lower extremity, an absent right foot, an absent right forearm, absent radius and four digit of the left arm, adrenal gland aplasia, and hypoplasia of the urinary bladder and rectum.
