The patients had all experienced a serious skin reaction to carbamazepine approximately 6-10 years prior to this episode. Oxcarbazepine was discontinued in all patients with a subsequent resolution of the skin reaction. The 68-year-old man was treated with antihistamines and Alpha-Keri (Rm) lotion. Oxcarbazepine, believed to cause fewer adverse effects than carbamazepine, had been initiated in the patients on an individual patient usage (IPU) provision because of inadequate seizure control with other anticonvulsants.
