Two patients started receiving oxcarbazepine 900 mg/day, and two started treatment at a dosage of 1200 mg/day [routes not stated]. Brain radiotherapy (total dose 60 Gy) was subsequently initiated in all patients, and was associated with temozolomide in three patients. All patients presented with major pruritic skin reactions 2–14 days after commencement of radiotherapy. The rash was characterised by papules, macules and boils, which spread from the scalp to face, shoulders, and trunk; all patients also had moderate fever. EM secondary to concomitant treatment with radiotherapy and oxcarbazepine was diagnosed. Oxcarbazepine was discontinued after 1 or 2 months of therapy in all patients. Two patients required additional treatment with chlorphenamine and ebastine. EM gradually resolved in all patients. Maschio M, et al.
