Where do YOU live?

A I live in a (1) . It’s pretty small but it has everything I need in one room and it’s (2) to the city (3) which is good for work. My room is quite big but it (4) the car park – so it gets quite noisy!

1 I love my room. It’s very colourful – with reds, blues and pinks! And the sun comes in from early morning. 2 In our house we use solar energy and collect rainwater to use. 3 Our house was built very recently so it has a lot of the latest technology. 4 My friend’s flat is enormous. The rooms are all very big. 5 When we moved into a new flat it already had all the furniture we needed. 6 I like our new house even though all the rooms are really small. 7 Most of the furniture in the sitting room is second-hand but it’s good to sit on – nice and soft!

A: Hi Paul. I know you’ve been looking for (1) accommodation/living while you’re studying. Have you found anywhere yet?B: Actually, I have! I moved (2) into/in three days ago. There was an (3) announcement/advert on the notice board at college for a studio

flat near the college. It was just what I was looking for.A: So, you didn’t have to go through an estate (4) seller/agent?B: No. I just contacted the (5) tenant/landlord of the flat, paid a (6) deposit/mortgage and that was it.A: Did you have to pay much (7) in/for advance?B: No, only a month. The (8) rent/amount plus the bills isn’t too expensive, although obviously it’s more than (9) dividing/sharing with

a couple of (10) flat friends/flatmates.A: And you didn’t want to share?B: No, I like living (11) on/by my own. And it’s not that small. It’s definitely big enough for a (12) house heating/housewarming party!

Hi Emma, It’s great to hear you’ve left home and (1) m d into a flat! You’ll love it. Living on your (2) o n is a bit odd at first, but you’ll get used to it. Dave told me that you’d found somewhere right in the city (3) c e and that you’ve got a wonderful (4) v w of the river from where you are. When I first left the family home I lived in a (5) t y studio flat and I loved it in spite of its size! Now I’ve got a bigger place. It’s a (6) s - d house in the (7) s s that I (8) s e with some housemates. It’s quite a good (9) n d, but not as lively as where you are! And the house is great, really. The bedrooms are quite small but we’ve got a (10) s s living room – which is great for parties! I must also say it’s nice sharing because I don’t have to pay so much (11) r t! The only problem with the house is that you can hear the people next door through the (12) w s!Is your flat (13) f d? It’s useful if it is – then you don’t have to spend a lot on furniture. Ours wasn’t and we had to buy our own stuff. My parents gave us an old (14) s a to sit on in the living room and my housemate, Julie, her dad gave us some chairs and (15) r s for the floors. We bought a lot of things (16) s - d off the Internet. The kitchen is fully (17) f d so we were OK there for the cooker and fridge and so on.Luckily, we’ve got a good (18) l d who looks after the house well. He employed some workmen to go up on the roof last week because rainwater was coming through the ceiling in my room! It ruined my (19) d t but Mr Landers has paid for a new one. The (20) r s stopped working one day too – it was freezing! But he had those fixed very quickly. I hope you don’t have too many problems in your new flat! Do let me know how you get on – we must get together sometime soon.Love, Katy x
