Lorazepam Hypomania A 61-year-old man with a 30-year history of affective illness received phenelzine 45 mg/day for refractory depression and, after 2 weeks, lorazepam 1mg/day, The patient had a history of mild hypomania following electroconvulsive therapy given for severe depression, which resolved spontaneously over 48 hours, Within hours of receiving lorazepam the patient was euphoric, hyperactive and gregarious but after 48 hours he became depressed, anxious and agitated, On receiving lorazepam 1mg a week later, a similar reaction was seen. Liothyronine 50 Jig/day and phenelzine 45 mg/day completely resolved the depressive state, Burke WJ Journal 01 Clinical Psychopharmacology 7 356·357.
