One East End: Building a better future Island Gardens ward

Labour pledges action on crimeCrime up in TowerHamlets, but  downacross neighbouringLondon  boroughs

Labour  launches 5point  plan to tack le

crime and antisocial

behaviour

We need a Mayorwho listens and gets

thi n gs done - JohnBiggs

Here in the East End we have a proud tradition

of strong communities, but many residents are

worried about rising levels of crime and  anti-

social behaviour. That s why we are setting out a

clear f ive-poin t  plan for making our streets safer:

1) We will  act by implementing a Local Safety

Action Plan in every neighbourhood. We will

hold regular public meetings so that  whether

it s better lighting or more CCTVon your street,

our neighbourhood plans will be based on yourpriorities.

2) A Labour Mayor will  lead the fight against

crime and anti-social behaviour personally.

John Biggs will create Mayor-led Partnerships

with police and other agencies, working together

to solve problems across the borough.

3) We will  get  tough on lazy landlords who refuse

to take responsibility for safety improvements

such as security doors and lighting in stairwells.

4) We will  crack  down on night time anti-social

behaviour outside bars, clubs and fast food shops

by removing licences from irresponsible owners

who don t do their bit.

5) We will work  together with local communities

to provide better youth services, reviewing the

current Mayor s attack on local providers and;

where it makes sense, putting power back in the

hands of local organisations who know their area

and its young people best.

Everyone has a right to feel safe on our streets

and in their own homes. With your support next

year we can make this a top priority and end the

current Mayor s culture of complacency.

They are local  champions dedicated  to making the area safer, fairer

and open  to new opportunities."

John Biggs Labour candidate for  Mayor  of  Tower Hamlets

Andrew Cregan

I work in Docklands, volunteer for a local heritage charity and love living in

the East End,

We deserve better from our council for the services we pay for, from simple

things like bin collections - where the council has failed - to big things like

more school places on the Isle of Dogs for local children, and more police to

curb the rising tide of crime in our borough.

I look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks. Please feel free to get

in touch with me.
