The market and technology for electric drive vehicles is growingrapidly and will soon epitomize the mainstream of new vehiclecar sales. As such, it is more important than ever to stayinformed on the latest technology, hybridization andelectrification solutions, and new emission/energy consumptiontargets. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have great potential tosave fuel consumption and reduce pollution emission.

The automotive technology that drives hybrid electric vehicleshas huge potential for research and development. Fromefficiency-improving technologies such as regenerative brakes toadvanced batteries in plug-in electric vehicles designed forextended life, the scope for enhancing the power available atthe wheels is enormous, and as such many researches havefocused on the technologies and applications of HEVs both inacademia and industry.

HEAT seeks to provide a platform for researchers working in thisdomain with specific topics of discussion which includebatteries, battery cooling methodologies, use of nano-coolants,electrified powertrain systems and components, hybridizationinfrastructure, energy storage, and many other topics ofimportance to the industry.

PES University (formerly PES Institute of Technology) wasestablished as a State Private University under Karnataka Act No.16 of 2013 on November 19, 2013 and the first academic sessionof the University started on August 4, 2014. The University offersBachelors and Masters Programs in Engineering, BusinessManagement and Computer Applications. The vision of theUniversity is to create professionally superior and ethicallystrong global workforce. PES Institute of Technology wasestablished in 1988 as a flagship institute of PES (PeoplesEducation Society). The institution made rapid progress on theresearch front receiving grants from various funding agenciessuch as NRB, AR&DB, DST, DRDO, ISRO, KCTU. The institutionentered into MOUs with leading industries, scientificorganizations, and institutions of higher learning in the countryand overseas, to facilitate student and faculty exchangeprograms, joint research, and publication.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering came into existencein 1988. The Department has a highly qualified and dedicatedteam of faculty engaged in teaching, research, and consultancy. The Department offers undergraduate & postgraduateprograms in Mechanical Engineering. The Department isequipped with state-of- the-art laboratories with high endequipment such as subsonic wind tunnel and water tunnel, 3D-printing, friction-stir welding besides high end software andhardware. The students of the Department under the aegis ofvarious clubs viz., Team Aeolus, Team HAYA, and Team VEGAinvolve in designing and building UAVs, racing cars and electricvehicles, and regularly participate in National and Internationalcompetitions every year. One of the major achievements of thedepartment is its recognition as the first PACE (Partners forAdvancement of collaborative Engineering Education) centre inthe country by general Motors, USA.

Process modelling is an important branch of mechanicalengineering and is essential for optimizing control parametersand production planning. This is of great significance in theindustry where production efficiencies are needed to beimproved. Dedicated to bring to the industry the power ofmathematical modelling, Process Modelling Research Lab at PESUniversity is working to propagate the use of process modellingtools amongst academics and industries through continuouslearning, research and consultancy.AB
