L U Huawei has been operating in Europe or ten years.

During these ten years, Huawei has been ocusing onand meeting customer needs, continuously investingin local countries, and integrating into local markets. This practice has helped Huawei become what it is to-

day: a global industry leader, operating locally, com-mitted and visionary in its approach and promoter oopen, air, and competitive environment.

Currently, Huawei has 41 subsidiaries in EU countries,10 R&D centers, 20 customer innovation centers, anda work orce o over 7,000. In 2011, Huaweis pro-curement rom Europe reached 2.9 billion Euros. Allthese achievements will constitute a solid oundationor our long-term growth in Europe.

From its own experiences, Huawei has ully recog-nized the signi cance o a harmonious, open, andtransparent interaction between companies, society, and governments. As rightly put orward by AntonioTajani, Vice-President o the European Commission:CSR is a signi cant pillar o Europes economic andsocial uture and a key element in ensuring sustain-

able growth. To seek a business environment thatis harmonious and conducive to sustainable develop-ment, every company needs to ormulate and imple-ment a corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategythat suits the actual conditions o the company itsel .

These actions constitute a companys aspirations ordevelopment and social responsibilities.

Huawei has a long-term CSR strategy in Europe. Weare constantly expanding our investments in Europewhile complying with the laws and policies o eachcountry where we operate. We work to improve theenvironment o the industrial chain and increase localand global cooperation to orm a win-win situations;we strive to provide convenient and quality in orma-tion services to European citizens and industry part-ners through our pro essional teams and innovativetechnologies; we pay attention to Europe, especiallyor the rural areas, helping bridge the digital divide bybringing broadband solutions to electronic in orma-tion services there. Additionally, we increase our e -orts in developing young talented people in Europe, keep them abreast o new technologies and business

so that they can bene t more rom Huaweis growthwhile playing their part during this process; we pushor technological innovations to constantly reduce theenergy consumption o communications networksin a bid to make green IT a core eature o uturenetworks. Last but not least, we interact a lot withthe communities where we operate and contributeto cultural exchanges and community development.

Huawei is in the in ormation industry, which is charac-terized by technology-driven growth, great potential, and globalized operations. The infuence o multiplecultures and the international market is ubiquitousacross the industry. With these actors at work, Hua-wei is committed to leveraging its own capacity andinfuence to give back to society, create social value, and turn this value into the driving orce or itsel andor social development.

Huawei will continue to pursue its development strat-egy o globalization in the next 20 years. Europe, being the largest market or the in ormation industryand the hub or most advanced technological inno-vations, is o strategic importance to Huawei. As a

global company that pursues localized operations,Huawei will ul ll its commitments on social responsi-bilities as always and enable Europe to experience thetangible value brought by Huawei. CSR Europe is delighted to have Huawei as a mem-ber o the leading European network or Corporate

Social Responsibility. Huaweis active engagement inour agship Enterprise 2020 initiative has been valu-able - the exchange o practical experience betweenHuawei and other corporate members and stakehold-ers has helped us to identi y concrete areas or theurther development o new business models that address socio-economic challenges in a sustainablemanner.

Although ICT is not intrinsically green, because it it- sel consumes energy and raw materials, ICT can beleveraged to make business processes more energy-e fcient. The network there ore highly appreciates

Huaweis expertise in Green ICT, which contributesto the vision o Enterprise 2020 and Europe 2020 by reducing carbon emission and increasing the use o renewables in energy. ltE s e n he wor dHuawei has teamed up with a Norwegian local op-erator to set up the worlds northernmost long-termevolution (LTE) site. The site is located in Longyear-byen, the most northerly town on the Svalbard ar-chipelago, located at 7813N in the Arctic Circle. The climate there is so extreme that the temperatureplummets to 50 degrees below zero in winter. Hua-weis LTE equipment has historically demonstratedexcellent stability in extreme weather conditions.

The hospitalsare nearly 300 kilometers apart but will now be able toconnect to develop telemedicine services via some othe most modern equipment in the Baltic states. Ac-cording to England Dozier, Latvian Minister o Health, this technology will help improve patient treatment, a-cilitate the sharing o medical knowledge and patienttreatment between hospitals, and urther promote thedevelopment o medical technology in Latvia.

Three questions with Philippe PerrinDeputy General Manager, Huawei France. Joined Huawei in 2006

What values drive your everyday work at Huawei? In the past six years, I have had good and challenging experiences, battling against tough competitors. It is clear to me that we oweour success to a combination o perseverance, continuity, team work, passion, and last but not least, good products. Today, Huawei isvery di erent rom the company I joined six years ago. It is three times larger, but the essential spirit o determination and dedication isstill present. Looking ahead, I believe that we are entering a new phase in our relationship with our customers and with the industry.Increased accountability towards them will help advance Huaweis strong e fciency and pro essionalism.

What defnes Huawei employees?Huawei employees are defned by a spirit o doing, improving and achieving. They are also incredibly dedicated, both to the companyand its customers. Were also a very young company. In act, the average age o the Huawei Management Team is just 42!

Huaweis prides itsel on its commitment to its employee career development. How have you benefted rom that visionduring your time at Huawei?Speaking o my personal experience, I started at Huawei as Account Manager, was promoted to Account Director in 2009, and thento Director Business Unit in 2011. In 2012, I was asked to take up a new role as Deputy Managing Director o Huawei France. I joinedHuawei in 2006, in the early days o the companys development in France. Given that Huawei has such a broad port olio, I had thechance to play in an open feld covering almost the entire telecom world: innovative network technologies, terminals, pro essional ser-vices, etc. I have been engaged in almost all key telecom evolutions o the recent years, rom the explosion o mobile data tra fc to thedevelopment o the optic network, which is quite unique in terms o personal development. At the same time, the growth o Huaweihas been such that there was a clear need or internal structuring to which I have also been able to contribute. Overall, it has been a verydynamic and pro essionally ulflling experience.

Three questions with Marita SperaSenior Communications Manager, Huawei Italy. Joined Huawei in February 2006

What motivated you to join Huawei?I was working or a Hong Kong company, so I was already aware o Huawei group. When I discovered that Huawei was opening theItalian branch, I immediately applied or a Marketing Communication position.

What pro essional and personal attributes have you enhanced or developed by working or Huawei?Working in an international environment is very important or me. Huawei has given me the possibility to be in touch with di erentpeople and di erent cultures, which is important rom both a personal and pro essional point o view. At Huawei, I have the opportu-nity to learn how colleagues rom other countries work or approach issues, and this has enhanced my pro essionality and competenceand enlarged my vision.
