Reactions 471 - 2 Oct 1993 Clorazepate Adverse effects: clinical study In a multicentre study in the Philippines, 12/562 patients (2%) treated for anxiety disorders with clorazepate (Tranxene®) 5-20 mg/day reported adverse events; these were mild and did not require drug withdrawal. Adverse effects included gastric irritation (n = 6) and drowsiness/sedation (6). There were no reports of withdrawal symptoms. 85% of patients responded to the drug. Author comment: ‘Clorazepate was found to be both a relatively well-tolerated and effective anxiolytic agent.’ Perez GG, et al.
