Carbamazepine Erythema multiforme after generic substitution: case report
Symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia in a 38-year-old woman were well controlled with carbamazepine ('Tegerol') . One week after substitution
of a generic formulation , the woman discontinued carbamazepine after developing erythema multiforme. Although skin lesions resolved spontaneously, pain associated with trigeminal neuralgia recurred. Following the discovery of the substitution, 'Tegerol ' was reintroduced. Pain relief was rapid and skin lesions did not recur.
'Generic formulations may have biologic and therapeutic equivalence, but they are not identical.'
