Myocardial infarction: case reportA close temporal association between the administration of
adjuvant antineoplastic therapy for testicular cancer andmyocardial infarction in a 36-year-old man suggested a causeand effect relationship.
The man’s antineoplastic regimen consisted of bleomycin30mg on days 2, 9 and 16, etoposide 100 mg/m2 on day 1–5and cisplatin 20 mg/m2 on days 1–5. Nine days after he beganthe antineoplastic regimen, the man experienced ananteroseptal myocardial infarction and was treated withalteplase.
Five days later, the man developed severethrombocytopenia and required a platelet transfusion. Theman subsequently recovered. He did not receive any furtheradjuvant antineoplastic therapy and his cancer remained inremission at follow-up 11 months later.
Author comment: There have been 23 previous cases ofacute myocardial infarction in patients treated with cisplatin-based antineoplastic therapy reported in the literature.Gerl A, et al.
