Reactions 413 - 8 Aug 1992 Antineoplastics First report of Henoch Schoenlein purpura in an elderly patient: case report 20 days after the second course of antineoplastic therapy comprising cisplatin, ifosfamide and vindesine for primary lung adenocarcinoma, a 76-year-old man was diagnosed with Henoch Schoenlein purpura. Following treatment with prednisolone, the non- thrombocytopenic purpura and the abdominal symptoms disappeared. As the steroid dosage was decreased, proteinuria and haematuria decreased. Purpura and abdominal pains did not recur. Author comment: Henoch Schonlein purpura associated with antineoplastic therapy has not previously been reported. While the relationship with this therapeutic regimen is not proven, the appearance of the symptoms after the second course of treatment would indicate a cause and effect relationship.
