Reactions 1415 - 18 Aug 2012 S Antineoplastics Parkinsonism with encephalopathy, followed by dystonia: case report A boy was diagnosed with thalamic and midbrain dysgerminoma at 16 years of age, and he developed parkinsonism with encephalopathy followed by dystonia during treatment with antineoplastics. The boy had a partial tumour resection. He received four cycles of cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, etoposide, ifosfamide and vincristine [routes and dosages not stated] followed by craniospinal radiotherapy sessions. He developed severe progressive parkinsonism with encephalopathy 2 months after the end of his treatment [age at reaction onset and duration of treatment to reaction onset not clearly stated]. The patient was given levodopa and benzatropine, but his symptoms persisted. After 8 months, improvements in his parkinsonism and encephalopathy were noted. Levodopa was weaned and withdrawn, but he developed severe progressive segmental dystonia. Levodopa was restarted, and his symptoms improved greatly.
