Reactions 1173 - 13 Oct 2007 S Antineoplastics Oesophageal stricture in a child with Candida pericarditis: case report A 3-year-old girl with Candida pericarditis developed oesophagus stricture during treatment with vincristine, doxorubicin, prednisolone and methotrexate for pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukaemia [dosage and duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. The girl was hospitalised on 6 November and received her first antineoplastic treatment of vincristine, doxorubicin, prednisolone and intrathecal injections of methotrexate. Five days after treatment initiation, she had Candida in her genital area and on her skin and tongue. Despite administration of various antibacterials and antifungals, she developed Candida pericarditis, which was treated with voriconazole. On 15 December, she was improving. Subsequently, she developed progressive dysphagia and was unable to eat or swallow her own saliva; she was still receiving voriconazole. Barium oesophagography revealed a 6cm long stricture in her distal oesophagus. On 25 April 2006, IV voriconazole was replaced by oral therapy. Oesophageal stricture in a child with Candidapericarditis: case report
