Today I will be preaching from that great Italian

Prophet, Ma-la-chee! Or do you say Malachi? Verse 2 of

Malachi 1 says, “Jacob I have loved . . . Esau I have

hated.” Jacob and Esau were brothers . . . as a matter

of fact, they were twins. And God says, “I love one of them and I

hate one of them.” I don’t know about you, but I have a problem

with that. Especially when I compare that statement to other

scriptures about God’s character!

I am talking about God’s sovereign love today and

hopefully some of the fog will clear up concerning this verse of

scripture: “Jacob I have loved - Esau I have hated.”

For God so loved the world!

Offer Food Assistance Here in Fargo! Calvary has a regular

commitment to the Emergency Food Pantry (1101 4th Avenue North, Fargo) each February. Volunteers are needed THIS WEEK from

February 10-14. Morning shifts are 9:30-12 (two volunteers needed each day); afternoon shifts are 1:00-4:00 (four volunteers needed

each day). Sign up in the foyer or contact Bruce Harmon (701-212-2695) with questions.

Today we are worshipping Jesus for His love. Do you cherish His

presence? How has Jesus saved you or brought healing, deliverance, and mercy in your life? Once a month we love to celebrate

testimonies of Christ in worship. Do you have a story to share? Contact Becky Carlson at [email protected].

Spread God’s love in Nicaragua! Calvary is sending a small team to

our sister church in Nicaragua from Feb. 23 to March 2. Would you

like to donate gifts for us to take along? Please bring donations like

soccer balls, sling shots, toothbrushes, shoes, children's clothes,

children's books, treats, baby clothes, or baby blankets to Pastor

Dave’s office. Or if you would like to contribute monies, just earmark

your check as “Nicaragua” and this money will be used for food bag

distribution, the feeding center and other needs the Abangasca Sur

church has. Thank you!

Thank you to our fantastic volunteers for serving at Feed My

Starving Children this month. Over 2 million meals were packed by

Fargo teams in one weekend — glory to God!

Location Change! This month, the United Methodist Women Dorcas circle will meet at Joyce Janke’s house 3602 10th Street South, Fargo at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 11 instead of at Calvary. Questions? Please contact Joyce at (701) 446-6317.

Scripture readers, ushers, and greeters are needed weekly. Sign up

at the Information Center today, children are welcome to participate.

What is ahead for Calvary? On January 19, Calvary took a non-

binding vote regarding a potential (worldwide) denominational split

over issues of same-sex marriage and inclusion of gay clergy. We

asked this question: “If the United Methodist denomination does not

formally ‘split’ after the May 2020 General Conference, would you be

in favor of disaffiliating from the United Methodist Church?” 92% of

participants voted “yes,” that they would be in favor of disaffiliating.

5% voted “no” and 3% had unclear answers.

Thank you for your feedback and comments on the ballot. As the

Way Forward team continues to research options and stay up to

date on denominational news, we ask that you pray. We are trusting

God with what is next and we know that He is faithful. We will do our

best to answer the questions you submitted in writing and will

continue giving quarterly reports. The next (formal) vote will take

place after the General Conference this May, and only members will

be able to vote. If you are not a member and would like your vote to

count, our next membership class is March 8. Sign up sheets will be

available soon, or contact Pastor Dave.

Do you struggle to trust God in dark seasons? In the midst of

hardship, tragedy, and unanswered questions, it’s difficult to

glimpse God at work or hold onto faith. Join us for “Finding God

Faithful,” a women’s study with Kelly Minter. Over 8 sessions we’ll

trace the path of Joseph’s life and learn to trust God’s plan and His

presence in all things. His provision is enough, His presence is

constant, and His purpose is unstoppable! Meeting Wednesday

evenings (Room 102, 6:30-7:30) starting Feb. 26 or Friday

mornings (Room 101, 9-10:30) starting Feb. 28; Books are $15, sign

up at the Information Center today. All are welcome!

Your Glasses Make a Difference! January is a decluttering

month for many, which offers a great opportunity for thoughtful

recycling of your household items. Did you know that Calvary has a

collection box for usable eyeglasses? Lions Clubs around the world

distribute usable eyeglasses with their Lions Recycle for Sight

program and we have a collection box here at Calvary (located at

the Missions/Donations cart by the gymnasium). If you have

questions about this program or about Lions Clubs International,

please contact Paul Fleming (701-361-4186).

Did you know? Hearing assistance devices are available at the back of the sanctuary. Please visit with the ushers for information.
