  • Flos RegalisRoyal, virginal flowerIllustrious leader of the choirWho from Jesse is descendedFrom his royal offspring.O fragrant rose, oh primrose,Free thy servants from all evil. The king has conducted theeTo the royal wedding roomO flower of beauty andhighly honored balsam.

O Virtus SapientieO energy of Wisdom!you circled, circling, encompassing all thingsin one path possessed of life.Three wings you have;one of them soars on high, the second exudes from the earth, and the third flutters everywhere.Praise to you, as befits, you,O Wisdom!

An die NachtigalTo the NightingaleStay here and singDear nightingale,Your song rings outWarbling over all.

Flower and woods eavesdrop,All listen to you,not a leaf rustlesAll is at rest.If I hear correctly, the rushingof the brook is less,So that here silence reigns --It has left its bluster behind.

An den AbendsternTo the Evening StarFloat upwards towards heaven,Lovely evening star!Your luster amongst the throngDelights everyone.

You rise and then setin heaven’s canopynot one of your brothersIs adorned with such vestments.

Der Hirt auf dem FelsenThe Shepherd on the Rock

When on the highest crag I stand, looking down to the valley and singing, far away from the deep dark valley, an echo rises. The farther my voice goes, the clearer it echoes from below. My sweetheart lives so far away from me; I fervently long to be down there with her.

I am consumed with the deepest grief, and all my joy is gone. All my earthly hopes have fled; I am so lonely here! So longingly rang my song in the woods, so longingly it rang through the night, it draws all hearts toward heaven with wondrous power.

Springtime is coming, springtime my joy!now I ready myself to wander and roam. The farther my voice goes, the more clearly it comes back to me.
