Town Hall was previously a social venue for Penangs elite back in the 1880s. Its classic colonial elegance was the backdrop for a scene in the popular film, Anna and the King. The Historic City of George Town covers an area of 109.38 ha bounded by the Straits of Melaka on the north-eastern cape of Penang Island, Lorong Love (Love Lane) to the north- west and Gat Lebuh Melayu and Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong to the south-west corner. There are more than 1700 historic buildings within this Core Zone aligned on four main streets of Pengkalan Weld, Lebuh Pantai, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and Lorong Love and several perpendicular streets of Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah, Lebuh Light, Lebuh Bishop, Lebuh Gereja, Lebuh China, Lebuh Pasar, Lebuh Chulia, Lebuh Armenian and Lebuh Acheh.

Built in 1883, it is the oldest Hindu temple in George Town. It began as a humble Hindu shrine dedicated to Sri Muthu Mariamman. A distinctive feature of the temple is its gopuram with 38 exquisitely carved Hindu deities.Lebuh Queen.

This clan temple features classic Chinese architecture with the surprising addition of British lion heads on the temple. The lions symbolise the Straits Chinese loyalty to the British colonial powers. The Cheah Clan is one of the oldest Hokkien clans in Penang. The temple was completed in 1870s.8, Lebuh Armenian. The mosque was founded by Tengku Syed Hussain bin Abdul Rahman Aideed in 1808 for the early Hadhrami Arab settlers. Today, families of the descendants lives in the 19th century bungalows that surround the mosque.Lebuh Acheh.

Founded in 1803, the mosque was built to cater to the needs of Indian Muslims from Bengal who travelled to Penang in search of new life and opportunities. It was built on land granted by the East India Company.Lebuh Leith.

Named after Sir Henry Gurney, a High Commissioner of Malaya, this seafront promenade is famous for its open air hawker place and Gurney Plaza, an upscale mall with many international boutiques.

CLAN JETTIES

Located along the Weld Quay are Penangs historical clan jetties, home to families of traders, fishermen and dock workers. Built in the 19th century, these traditional houses are built over the sea on stilts and are connected by wooden walkways.Pengkalan Weld.

This popular temple is dedicated to Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. The first foundation was laid in 1728 by Chinese settlers and completed in 1800.Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling.

HAINAN TEMPLE

The temple was founded in 1866 and dedicated to patron saint of seafarers, the goddess Mar Chor. The present building was built in 1895 and restored in 1995. Lebuh Muntri. Open 8am 8pm daily.

CAMERA MUSEUM

Camera Museum is located at Lebuh Muntri. It is the first camera museum in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Camera Museum is divided into four areas - photography exhibition hall, camera exhibition hall, souvenirs area and cafe area. It showcases more than 300 old and new cameras. Kek Lok Si is the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia which began its construction back in the 1890. 34BATU MAUNG FISHING VILLAGE

The fishing village is a close-knit community located at Penang Islands southeastern tip. It is famed for a mysterious giant footprint on a boulder at the beach. Known as Tapak Gedembai, the Chinese believe the footprint was left by the mighty Admiral Cheng Ho, while Indians believe it belonged to the monkey God Hanuman and Malays believe it belonged to a fleeing giant.

36PENANG BRIDGE

The first Penang Bridge was opened in 1985, spans a total of 13.5km and is the main link between Penang Island and the mainland on Peninsular Malaysia. It is also the annual site for the Penang Bridge International Marathon. However, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (second Penang Bridge) with a total length of 24km is completed in 2014. It connects the southeastern part of the island to the mainland.

28PENANG NATIONAL PARK

For nature lovers, this is definitely a place you must visit. Take on the nature trails if youre an adventurous person and hike all the way up to the pristine beaches of Teluk Duyung, Muka Head or Pantai Kerachut. Meromictic lake is located in Penang National Park. It consists of freshwater and saltwater which is a rarity as there are only three in Asia and one in Malaysia. Meromictic describes a condition whereby two layers of liquids with different temperature. In this case, the lake's deep water is warmer and saltier sea water and its surface is colder and fresher clear water. They remain separated in two layers. May to August is the tour season for the meromictic lake. Out of the season, the lake is dry bottom like a well.

38NINE EMPEROR GODS TEMPLE

Built in 1971 and one of the biggest in Butterworth, the temple is dedicated to the worship of the Nine Emperor Gods. On the 9th Month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival will be held for duration of 9 days. During the festival, rituals such as skewering of a 9m spear between the mouth and fire walking will be carried out.Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth.

39MENGKUANG DAM

Officially opened in 1985, Mengkuang Dam is notably larger than the Air Itam Dam with a storage capacity ten times greater. The massive dam is a popular destination for sports and recreational activities. A homestay programme (Mengkuang Titi) is available as well.Seberang Perai.
