This is a great organization to volunteer with any time of the year. Their Santa Parade travels through local residential communities spreading joy and collecting toys. Imagine sitting on your front porch and watching a parade come down your street! The parade consists of several floats, fire trucks, City vehicles, and other civic groups. Costumed animals and Santa’s elves walk alongside the parade to collect toys from spectators on the sidewalks. This year, approximately 5,000 toys were collected. For the past couple of years, RRT has joined as the equestrian group. Jurupa Valley loves seeing the horses decorated in twinkling lights, and being reminded that horses are a big part of our local lifestyle. This year we had riders in two of the four nights of the Santa Parade. On December 2nd, we had Annemarie Southern, Megan Southern, Becky Hageman, and Craig Thorpe as our Pooper Scooper. On December 10th, we had Andrea Olivas, Dina Olivas, Sandye Ciprian, Russell Grace, and Elana Riedel and John Hirsch as our Pooper Scoopers. The 129th Rose Parade theme is “Making a Difference.”This year, every float is showcasing what is making adifference in their community.

Riverside stepped into the national spotlight Monday,Jan.1st, with its first Rose Parade float in decades. And itstepped in style, winning the “Golden State” award formost outstanding depiction of life in California.

Other Inland groups and residents weren’t far behind. Amassive replica of the city’s crown jewel - the Mission Inn -glided through the Pasadena parade route to mark the 25thanniversary of the “Festival of Lights” holiday celebration.

There were 37 people from “Ramona Pageant,”Hemet’s iconic Outdoor Play - including its equestrian units, native dancers, hoop dancer Terry Goedel with six familymembers and a carriage with Ramona and Alessandro.

Hemet’s So Cal Mini HorseSanctuary Inc. This is their 2ndRose Parade. Each of the miniaturehorses in the parade is a rescue, which is a part of the facility’smission to rehabilitate and, findnew forever homes for the animals. Making music at the parade for a

second time were The BOSS (Bands Of SantiagoSharks). Including four large concert bands, three full Jazz“Big Bands,” a number of jazz combos and chamberensembles, a drum-line and a championship ColorGuard, Santiago.

In its 15th year in the parade, The Donate Life Floatis part of a national effort to send the message that organ, eye and tissue donation saves and heals lives. The floatincludes a floragraph of the face of late Riverside organdonor Giovanni Valle, 13 years, and Fontana residentElaine Jones, an organ donor, will walk beside the float.

Riverside sponsored floats from 1950 to 1959, includinga 1951 entry with a buggy. The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa,which has drawn millions of people to Riverside duringthe past 25 years by hosting the annual Festival of Lights, took center stage on the city’s 2018 Rose Parade float. Thefloat is Riverside’s first Rose Parade float in nearly 60 yearsand symbolizes the strong bond between the city and thehistoric hotel. More than 500,000 people visit Riversideeach year during the six-week Festival of Lights.

“Riverside is returning to Pasadena to celebrate the 25thyear of the Festival of Lights, and to thank Duane and KellyRoberts for their hard work and immense generosity increating and growing this annual festival.” Mayor RustyBailey said, “There is no doubt in my mind that, if Duaneand Kelly Roberts had not re-opened the Mission Inn, andbuilt it and the Festival of Lights to where they are today,we would not be seeing the same success we are enjoyingas a community now.”

Volunteers helped decorate the Riverside Rose Parade floatfor the first time since the city last sponsored one in the 1950s,and the first time in a decade that any Inland Empire city hassponsored a float. The $320,000 for the float and relatedcosts were raised privately and didn’t include city dollars.

Take a look at some of ourlocal entries in the 2018Tournament of Rose Paradefrom the Inland Empire!!

The Norco Cowgirls & Little Miss Norco CowgirlsRodeo Drill Teams. Founded in 2008 by Mychon(MaShawn) Bowen. They are a professional team of womenthat perform with their horses at rodeos and events. Twentyriders, including seven mother-daughter pairs and a three-generation trio, ride Appaloosa, American Paint and Quarterhorses. You all know that planning a ride startsbefore the day of the ride and this was noexception!

I want to thank each and everyone whomRSVP’D and brought the suggested items.I can organize however I cannot do it allmyself!! You people are the best!!

We had a great ride, 13 of us started outjust after 10am… nice start huh? (Althoughwe picked up two along the way… soMaybe we should start this ride at 11am?).Patt French was our trail boss, and such afine job she did, she has been running ridesfor a while and I am pleased to have hertake this ride over and we did the ridethrough the mountains and crossed thestreet near the North entrance. It was prettyclear, warmed up nicely and only a fewhiccups, no real problems! I call that a win-win situation!!

There were only a few campsites… Johnand Evelyn Campbell were lucky enoughto get the best table for the group, so that’swhere we partied! Thank you both!! Wehad plenty of food to spare! Some justdropped it off and left!! Chili, cornbread, fruit, salad, chips and dip, cookies andcondiments… Not to mention Champagneand Cider to toast off a great New Year!
