William S. Caicott has been appointed as- sistant chemical director in charge of development, Organic Chemicals Depart- ment, Du Pont Co., with offices in Wil- mington, Del. Dr. Caicott has been director of the Jackson Laboratory and the semiworks plant at Deepwater since 1931, and has been connected with Du Pont since 1915. John Marlin Tinier, assistant director since 193S, has been appointed director of the laboratory and semiworks, and George E. Holbrook has been pro- moted to assistant director. Kermit Quentin Davenport, formerly with the Chemical "Warfare Service, HEuntsville Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala., and George William Ntiffer of Franklin Baptist College, Franklin, Ind., have joined the scientific staff of The C. M. Bundy Co., Indianapolis. Dan Bruce Rivkin, present chief chemist, has been placed in charge of t h e development and research division. Stanley Drigot bas accepted a position as research associate in control methods at the Gelatin Products Co., Detroit. He was previously inspector of powder and explosives, Ordnance Department, U. S. Army. Arthur J. Gilligan has been appointed chief chemist of t h e South Braintree, Mass., plant of the Armstrong Cork Co. Mr. Gilligan replaces W. L. MacKinnon, who has resigned, effective October 1, 1 9 4 3 . M. Ernest Graham, chemical engineer, has been appointed to the research staff of Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, Ohio, and assigned to its division of nonf er- rous metallurgy. William A. Green has joined the technical staff of the Hart Products Corp. and "will work -with textile manufacturers and proc- essors in connection with, their problems in t h e field of permanent finishes and pigment colors. Aristid V. Grosse, has been released from the Rubber Director's Office of the War Pro- duction Board and has accepted the position of director of research for the Houdry Laboratories of t h e Catalytic Development Corp. at Miarcus Ηοοϋ, Penna. IX L. Hooker has been appointed a mem- ber of tbe manufacturing committee of Socony-Vacuum Oil Co., Inc. He will be in charge of eastern refining operations and after the war will supervise foreign refining operations. H, "W. Sheldon has succeeded him as manager of the Paulsboro refinery. C. Max Hull has been appointed research associate in the Research Foundation, Ohio State University. BCe w a s for the past eight years a research chemist with the Standard Oil Co. of Indiana. Lester B. Knight, vice president of Na- tional Engineering Co., Chicago, 111., h a s accepted a commission of Lieutenant Com- mander, a n d is serving in the Bureau of Ships, Washington, D . C. Robert E. Rose has retired after 22 years' service as director of the Technical Labora- tory, Du Pont Dye Works, Deepwater, N". J., to become consultant to the labora- tory, and is succeeded by George H.
