THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

Turn your ear, O Lord, and answer me; save the servant who trusts in you, my God.

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Aug. 27th, 2017 ~ YEAR A

...Fr. Jack David

“Who do you say that I am?”, and Peter responded that he was the Christ, the Son of the living God! I sometimes wonder if Peter under-stood completely what his answer was going to cost him. Peter was the rock upon which the Church would be built. He was also the holder of the keys of God’s Kingdom. Later, Peter would suffer martyrdom to protect the Church which was to bring the Good News of Jesus to others. I often think; how would I answer that question if Jesus were to ask me. “Hey Jack, who do you say that I am?” I’m afraid that at times, I don’t have the words to express what is in my heart. I see Jesus as my saviour who died on a cross for me. I see Him as the Good Shepherd carrying me out of the brambles and the deep ravines of life. I see Him as a companion walking beside me on a road and lifting me up when I fall down, and holding me close when I am weak and afraid. I see a big brother who loves me even when I do what displeases Him!!

May be we should try to answer that question often. Look at Jesus as he asks you; “Hey, Jack, Hey Laurie, Hey Paul, who do you say that I am?” Amen! Amen!

Music Corner: Our voices matter! We challenge others with our voices to take up their cross and live the message that is sung in the Scriptures.

JESUS I TRUST IN YOU

Z ŻYCIA KOŚCIOŁA 1. Bóg jednoczy serca ufających i obdarza zdolnością miłowania dążących do prawdziwych radości. Dziś

prosimy, aby Bóg umocnił miłość w naszych rodzinach, aby małżonkowie mężnie umacniali wspólnotę małżeńską i rodzinną. Proroctwo o Kluczu Dawida zapowiada Pana Jezusa, który otwiera nam Bramy wiecznego Królestwa. On nie porzuca nas, lecz okazuje nam łaskę. Zdumiewająca jest mądrość i miłość Boga do nas. Klucze królestwa niebieskiego i władzę wiązania i rozwiązywania powierzył Piotrowi i Jego następcom.

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME Deceased members of the C.W.L. Deceased family members of Joe & Rita Ianni

Rozalię Chmielińską zam. córka z rodziną

Holy men and women, blessed of the ages, pray, O pray for us.

Sept. 02, Blessed Andre' Grasset, was born in Montreal. His family returned to France. He was ordained a priest. The cultural French revolution boldly raises its standard against religion, property, and the family; in such a situation courage and constancy are priceless. Refusing to sign the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, Blessed Andre and many other priests and religious were imprisoned in 1792 and martyred. Bl. Andre was only 34 years old and he reminds us that the last word belongs to Almighty God. Why is it easier to murder priests, to ruin Churches, than to teach the people the law of love? Why is it cheaper to ruin than to build? He was elevated 1925 as a first Canadian saint. Blessed Andre' Grasset, pray for us.

SEPTEMBER INTENTIONS FOR PRAYER:

Universal: Parishes ~ That our parishes, animated by a missionary spirit, may be places where faith is communi-cated and charity is seen.

The office will remain open the usual hours: Tues. Wed. Thurs.: Aug. 29, 30th & 31st. 9:00am to 1:00pm.

First Fridays. I want that these children, which this year received First Communion, now, they will come through 9 months every first Friday of a month to confession and communion. “God wanted… all things to be reconciled through him and for him” The invisible God had come among us in a physical way in Jesus Christ. He became a man for us and for our salvation. St. Paul declares the truth about Jesus Christ. He is the image of the living God. In him the fullness of God is displayed. It is through him that the created order emerges. It is through him that the Church emerges. Our redemption comes through the unique gift of his life upon the cross. We cannot lose sight of truth that St. Paul proclaims: It is in Jesus Christ that we are redeemed and gathered into One Body. We trust his word: “I am the light of the world whoever follows me will have the light of life.” “Come with joy into the presence of the Lord”. Christ invites us to “frequently fast and pray”. For us Catholics, every Friday is the day of fasting and prayer. We do not eat meat, and I ask you to do so. No meat every Friday and pray more, because Friday is the day when our Lord died on the cross for us and for our salvation. Let your prayer and fasting come before Him… May Jesus protects us from all harm and give us motivation to do his work on earth. May the First Friday’s celebration purify us in mind and heart, and make us always eager to serve the Lord and to serve one another. May it renew God’s life within us.

Aug. 29, Passion of St. John the Baptist: After John’s birth, his father Zechariah spoke Isaiah’s prophecy (Benedictus), saying that his son John would prepare the way of the Lord. In his zeal, John reproved Herod the Tetrarch for, among other things, living with Herodias, his brother’s wife; Herod had him imprisoned. On Herod’s birthday, Salome, the daughter of Herodias, danced and Herod was so impressed he told her to ask for whatever she wanted. She consulted her mother, who told her to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Herod could not refuse to honour his oath. The news of John’s death soon reached his disciples who came for the body and laid it in a tomb. John died a martyr for truth and justice. O Lord grant we may make straight your paths, as taught by that voice crying in the desert. St. John the Baptist, pray for us.
