,,Rocznik Demograficzny 2014 jest XLVII pozycj tej publikacji wydawanej przez GwnyUrzd Statystyczny w serii Roczniki Branowe (w latach 19901992 seria Roczniki Statystyczne).Pozycj otwierajc edycj by ,,Rocznik Demograficzny 19451966 wydany w 1968 r.Dwukrotnie publikacja ukazaa si poza seri, w nieco ograniczonym zakresie tematycznym,tj. z danymi za lata 1968 i 1969, jako opracowanie pt. ,,Ruch naturalny i wdrwkowy ludnociw 1969 r. (w serii Statystyka Polski Materiay Statystyczne nr 78) oraz z danymi za 1978 r., jakotablice wynikowe pt. ,,Stan, ruch naturalny i wdrwkowy ludnoci 1978.

Poczwszy od edycji z 1993 r. Rocznik Demograficzny ukazuje si w wersji dwujzycznej polsko-angielskiej, a od 2004 r. w wersji elektronicznej, w formacie pdf oraz Excel (tablice).

,,Rocznik Demograficzny 2014 skada si z czterech dziaw: ,,Stan i struktura ludnoci(biece bilanse ludnoci, wybrane wyniki spisw ludnoci oraz prognoza), ,,Ruch naturalnyludnoci (maestwa, separacje, rozwody, urodzenia, zgony i trwanie ycia), ,,Migracje ludnoci(wewntrzne stae i czasowe oraz zagraniczne dane z biecych bada i rdepozastatystycznych, a take wybrane wyniki spisw ludnoci) oraz ,,Przegld midzynarodowy (stani struktura ludnoci, ruch naturalny oraz migracje zagraniczne w wybranych krajach). Kadyz dziaw poprzedzony jest uwagami metodologicznymi zawierajcymi podstawowe definicje orazzasady prezentowania danych.

Publikacja zawiera podstawowe dane o stanie i strukturze ludnoci Polski oraz o ruchunaturalnym i migracjach w 2013 r. Poczwszy od 2011 r. dane dotyczce bilansu liczby i strukturyludnoci oraz wspczynnikw demograficznych i w zakresie migracji s opracowywane przyuwzgldnieniu wynikw spisu ludnoci z 2011 r. PREFACE

The Demographic Yearbook of Poland 2014 (Rocznik Demograficzny 2014) is the XLVII issueof the Branch Yearbooks series published by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (in 19901992the series was entitled the Statistical Yearbooks). The first publication of this type was TheDemographic Yearbook 19451966 issued in 1968. Twice the publication was issued out of theregular series and covered limited number of topics, namely data for years 1968 and 1969 werepublished in Ruch naturalny i migracje ludnoci w 1969 r. (Vital statistics and migration of thepopulation in 1969 in the series of the Polish Statistics Statistical Documents No. 78) as well asdata for 1978, which were published as a set of tables entitled Stan, ruch naturalny i wdrwkowyludnoci 1978 (Size, vital statistics and migration of population 1978).

Since 1993 the Demographic Yearbook of Poland has been published in bilingual version Polishand English, since 2004 has been prepared in electronic version in two formats in Acrobat Reader(pdf) and in Excel (tables).

The Demographic Yearbook of Poland 2014 consists of four parts: Size and structure ofpopulation (current balances of the size and structure of population, selected results of populationcensuses and population projections), Vital statistics of population (data on marriages, separations,divorces, births, deaths and expectation of life), Migration of population (data on internal permanent and temporary as well as data on international migration from current surveys and fromnon-statistical sources and also selected results of population censuses) and International review(data on number of population, vital statistics and migration in selected countries). At the beginning ofeach part there are methodological notes containing basic definitions and the principles of datapresentation.

The publication contains selected data on the size and structure of population, vital statistics andmigration in 2013. Since 2011 data concerning size and structure of population and demographic ratesare calculated on the basis of the results of 2011 population census; in addition data for 2010 wererecalculated with using the mentioned census. They were presented for the first time in TheDemographic Yearbook 2012.

In the current Demographic Yearbook edition the results of population projection for the years20142050 are presented. This population projection has been calculated on the basis of thepopulation number and structure as of December 31, 2013 as well as on the basis of the assumptionsregarding the expected trends in fertility, mortality and international migration. More information oncurrent population projection can be found in publication Population projection 20142050 (CSO,series Statistical Analyses and Studies, Warsaw 2014).

The Yearbook also contains international reviews, which allow, first of all, to analyse the currentdemographic situation of Poland in comparison with other European countries. Some tables presentpast time series which give possibility to conduct an analysis of basic demographic phenomena andprocesses.

At the beginning of the Yearbook there are tables numbered with Roman figures containingsummary data on the size of population, vital statistics and intensity of demographic phenomena forthe following disaggregation: the whole country by voivodships (by urban and rural areas), towns withpopulation of 100 thous. inhabitants and over as well as powiats, subregions and regions. The set oftables contains rates and indicators describing selected development trends of major demographicphenomena observed in Poland in the post-war period.

The scope of data in particular parts has been extended and modified in the consecutive issues ofthe publication in order to satisfy the increasing demand of the users for demographic data. It should

be emphasized that presented data provide only selected information, most relevant for characterisationof the phenomenas features. Detailed information on vital statistics and migration of population anddata on size and structure of population are available for the users at the CSOs website(http://www.stat.gov.pl), i.e. database DEMOGRAPHY (DEMOGRAFIA) and Local Data Bank(Bank Danych Lokalnych) and websites of regional statistical offices.

Additionally, two publications are issued every year (prepared both in electronic and paper version).These publications contain data on the number and structure of population as of mid-year and as ofthe end of the year entitled Size and structure of population and vital statistics by territorial division(Stan i struktura ludnoci oraz ruch naturalny w przekroju terytorialnym). The Central StatisticalOffice possesses also individual data on vital statistics and migration of population which givespossibility to compile data for requested variables and breakdowns.

The Yearbook of Poland 2014 was prepared in the Demographic and Labour Market SurveysDepartment under coordination of Joanna Staczak (head of the Population Statistics Section). Thework was supervised by Dorota Szatys deputy director of the Department.

We wish to express appreciation to employees of the Statistical Office in Olsztyn who are taking partin realisation of current researches on population, vital events and migration statistics. We also wish togive our regard to other institutions, whose representatives contributed to preparing the currentdemographic surveys.

The Central Statistical Office is interested in receiving any comments and suggestions concerning thecontents and form of the Yearbook which could contribute to the improvement of the nextpublications issue.
