Clorazepate * Oesophageal burn: first report One 5mg capsule of clorazepate was swallowed without water by a 25- year-old woman before lying down. Oesophageal discomfort developed within 1.5 hours, gradually becoming severe pain which was worse with swallowing. Fibreoptic oesophagoscopy 9 hours after the pain began showed a cylinder of necrotic grey-yellow mucosa hanging loose 18-23cm from th e incisors The patient recove red uneventfully Endoscopy has not been performed this ea rl y after ingestion of the causative drug before and it was suggested that th e burn may precede the formation of an ul cer.
