Reactions 584 - 20 Jan 1996 Carbamazepine Sinus tachycardia: case report Persistent sinus tachycardia developed in a 16-year-old boy during treatment with carbamazepine 1200 mg/day [duration of therapy not stated] for epilepsy. The boy had experienced cardiac palpitations for several months. Investigations revealed a mild systolic aortic ejection murmur at auscultation and sinus tachycardia (HR 140 beats/min). His carbamazepine plasma concentration was in the therapeutic range (9.7 µg/ml). [Patient outcome not stated.] Author comment: There have been no previous reports in the literature of carbamazepine-induced tachycardia when blood concentrations of the drug are in the therapeutic range.
