Carbamazepin.* Fingemail andtoenailhypopl •• ia: first rePort Seizure activity developed in a 29· year-old woman during her third pregnancy_Carbamazepine 10 rng/kg/day was prescribed at week 26 of gestation and this was increased to 14 rng/kg/day at week 36 (serum blood levels 5.5-6.1 ILQ/ml) . The woman's seizures were well controlled and in the forty-second week of pregnancy she was delivered of a female infant. Examination of the infant showed umbilical cord carbamazepine concentration 5.0 Ilg/ml (mother's serum carbamazepine concentration 6.1 Ilg/ml), 'minimal modelling of the aural helix', and fingernail and toenail hypoplasia. The child was otherwise normal except that her birthweight and head circumference was less than that of her 2 older siblings.
