What is Aquaponics? Hydroponics is the technique that grows plants on water with out soil

    Aquacultures is farming of fish

Aquaponics is the combination of hydroponics and aquaculture.

It address the issues in both of these practices by combining them as one system Plant grows inside the green house on water without soil and fertilizer

    Benefits

eeds only !"#$ of water compared to con%entional agriculture

&ertilizer is not required which is one of the ma'or cost component in con%entional agriculture

    (ery less land is required

    )illing is not required

    %ery less carbon foot print

    o weed management

    High yields per acre

    *ess man hours

+ff season crops can be grown

    &ree from soil borne diseases

    ,rop grows -$ faster

    +rganically produced

    Independent of weather

    /ore shelf life

    0asy har%esting process

    ,ontinuous production

    Issues

    High cost of initial establishment

&irst 1 months system wont produce

*imited 2nowledge on how to grow %arious crops

    3ystems are not standardized

    4equires s2ills and e5pertise

*ac2 of suppliers and mass production of equipment in India

    0conomic (iability

6ntil -77 there are not many commercially successful systems.

Past 8 years it is widely and successfully implemented in a commercial scale.

(ery low percentage of farming community can afford and sustain the system

)hough initial establishment cost is high9 in long run it is more sustainable farming

    than con%entional

It is more %iable in India compared to any other countries where aquaponics is

    growing rapidly

4aising costs of fuel9 fertilizer9 and labor ma2e this system more %iable than

con%entional :ue to the lu5ury of growing crops in offseason will increase gross income

4aising awareness of health leads to the demand of organic and nutritious food

    which will benefit the aquaponics

:ue to the high quality and longer shelf life these are much suitable to the e5port

    Aquaculture

In regular aquaculture density of fish is %ery low compared to Aquaponics so

    less yields

High density in Aqauponics is achie%ed due to the brea2 down of ammonia by

bacteria and consumption of nitrates by plant

/anaging ph. and temperature is easy compared to big fish ponds

    *ess disease prone

    0asy har%esting

    High sur%i%ability

    Plant ,ulture

Plants can be cultured in :eep water system or /edia beds.

/edia beds contain roc2 or other supporting material through which water

    will be running

(arious types of media is a%ailable for media beds such as pebbles9 rice hus2

Will support most of the crops

;rowth of the plant is faster and uniform

    3upport requested

,onsidering the cost of establishment with out support of )elangaana ;o%t. itwont be economically %iable9 and will not be implemented in large scale.

3ubsidy of the initial cost greatly help this system to e%ol%e and implement An establishment of consortium with help of horticulture and agriculture

    uni%ersities9 where growers can participate.

4esearch needed to be done to adopt the system to horticulture as well as

    floriculture field.

    &acilitate e5ports

How it helps &or e%ery 1 min a farmer commits suicide in India9 this situation no different

in )elangana . &armers are in dire need of new %iable solutions in agricultureto sustain financially. Aquaponics can be that solution

1$ of children are under malnutrition9 and raising population need morequality food. High yields of A6AP+I,3 will made food more a%ailable andcheap.

,urrent farming consumes lot of diesel9 electricity9 land and water which aremost %aluable resources9 and also consumptions Power and diesel lea%es lot

    of pollution into the en%ironment

)his is organically produced9 will address lot of health issues that is arising

due to the pesticides. It also reduces soil contamination bye these pesticides. ,apturing this technology early will gi%e ad%antage to )3 to become the

    leading agriculture produce suppliers

&loriculture can be greatly e5ploited and possibility of e5ports are high

/ar2eting )here is well established mar2eting structure for growers to sell directly in retail

    mar2et.

6nder the consortium a brand can be established and mar2eted directly in to the

    retail mar2et under that brand

As these products are organic a high demand in the mar2et can yield high price

,onclusion Aquaponics is growing rapidly worldwide with great promising results9 it will gi%e a

great ad%antage to the farmers in )elangaana

A ;o%t. subsidy of #!$ to @$ of the initial establishment cost is needed to initiate

the system Will resol%e the problems of farmers9 go%ernment and consumer

Will sol%e the issue of disintegrating land because of industrialization by using theless land

If the utility9 and equipment produced in large quantities9 cost of the initialestablishment of the system can be brought down.

:ue to the dependency of the fertilizer eliminated in the system9 &armers as wellas ;o%t. can sa%e significant amount of money
