Reactions 397 - 18 Apr 1992 Antineoplastics Adverse effects: clinical study Fatigue syndrome lasting 4-8 weeks, chemical and ischaemic hepatitis, severe thrombocytopenia and icterus occurred following whole liver chemoembolisation in 7 evaluable patients. The patients had unresectable colorectal cancer, metastatic to the liver, and good performance status They received ’Angiostat’, a vaso-occlusive collagen, mitomycin, doxorubicin +/- cisplatin. The authors suggested limiting the use of chemoembolisation in metastatic colorectal cancer to patients whose disease continues to progress after systemic or hepatic arterial antineoplastic therapy. They also suggested performing staged unilobar chemoembolisations at 4- to 6-week intervals rather than whole liver chemoembolisation in order to reduce toxicity Borner M, et al.
