Parvovirus B19 infection-related acute hepatitis:case report
A 49-year-old woman was diagnosed with intestinaldiffuse large B-cell lymphoma. She received one cycle ofCEOP chemotherapy comprising cyclophosphamide, vincristine, epirubicin and dexamethasone, followed by fivecycles of CEOP with rituximab [routes and dosages notstated]. Following chemotherapy, she developed acutehepatitis with persistent leucopenia andthrombocytopenia.
Liver biopsy showed acute hepatitis, and parvovirus B19was found in some hepatocytes on immunohistochemistry.Parvovirus B19 infection was confirmed by PCR [durationof treatment to reaction onset not stated]. Eight monthsafter the onset of hepatitis, her liver function recoveredspontaneously.
Author comment: "For patients treated with rituximab-based regimens, we suggest a high degree of clinical suspicionfor hepatotrophic viruses, including parvovirus B19 DNA".Yang SH, et al.
