Reactions 1400 - 5 May 2012 S Antineoplastics Parvovirus B19 infection-related acute hepatitis: case report A 49-year-old woman was diagnosed with intestinal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. She received one cycle of CEOP chemotherapy comprising cyclophosphamide, vincristine, epirubicin and dexamethasone, followed by five cycles of CEOP with rituximab [routes and dosages not stated]. Following chemotherapy, she developed acute hepatitis with persistent leucopenia and thrombocytopenia. Liver biopsy showed acute hepatitis, and parvovirus B19 was found in some hepatocytes on immunohistochemistry. Parvovirus B19 infection was confirmed by PCR [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. Eight months after the onset of hepatitis, her liver function recovered spontaneously. Author comment: "For patients treated with rituximab- based regimens, we suggest a high degree of clinical suspicion for hepatotrophic viruses, including parvovirus B19 DNA". Yang SH, et al.
