About 6 weeks after commencing chemotherapy, an 8-year-old boy with relapsed ALL developed transverse hyperpigmented bands on his nails. The nail changes, which were present on the nail plates of all fingers and toes, appeared as single, transverse, 2mm bands of red discolouration across the breadth of the nail. At the time of symptom onset, he had completed 5 cycles of chemotherapy under the UK-ALL-R1 regimen, which comprised asparaginase, cyclophosphamide, cytarabine, daunorubicin, etoposide, methotrexate and vincristine. [Patient outcome and treatment not stated.] A 5-year-old boy with ALL developed Mee’s lines on the nail plates of all fingers and toes 4 weeks after completing 20 cycles of chemotherapy under the UK-ALL regimen. The nail changes appeared as single, transverse, 2mm bands of white discolouration across the breadth of the nail. He had received cytarabine, daunorubicin, etoposide, methotrexate and tioguanine. The nail changes were asymptomatic and moved distally as the nail grew, finally disappearing. Gupta A, et al. Chemotherapy induced nail changes.
