সাড়িযে এসবই সোন রামন ডাবড়লন ছেধিনটধনর ছবশীরভাগ বাঙালীর

এড়েকপাধন ছডরা বাাযার মল কারণ ছতা এমড়ন সবই ঠিকঠাক চলধলও

েগগাপধিার কড়েন এই তললাধটর বাঙালীধের ড়বধশষ মমগপীিার উধেক হে কারণ আর ড়কছই না মাঞজা ছেওো শাড়ি-যড়ত সামধল গাড়ি হাাড়কধে ড়িশ

চড়ললশ মাইল না ছগধল মাধের ছেখা ছমধলনা ছে

ছেধকাধনা একসধপড়রধমনট সফল করধত ছেমন একটা ড়িটিকাল মাধসর

ড়রেোধেনট পরধোিন হে েগগাপধিার িনেও একটা নেনতম সংখোর

হিকপরাণ বাঙালীর পরধোিন ড়ছল ছসটা েখন হধে ছগল তখন শর হওোটা ড়ছল শযমাি সমধের অধপকষা তাই অড়ভড়িৎো এধস ছেই বলধলন আমাধের েধগা পধিা হধবনা অমড়ন হইহই কধর ঝাাড়পধে পিল সবাই

একটা সংগঠধনর ড়ভড়িসথাপনা ছথধক শর কধর এতবি মাধপর একটা

অনষঠান আধোিন করার পবগাড়ভজঞতা ছনই তবও অকলানত পড়রশরম কধর

আমরা ছচষটা কধরড়ছ এবছর পধিাটা শর করধত পরাথড়মক কথাবাতগ া শর

হবার ৮ মাধসর মধযেই পরথম পরধচষটাে ভল তরটি হেধতা ড়কছ ছথধকই

োধে ড়কনত আমরা ড়নড়িত আপনাধের সকধলর সাহােে এবং উৎসাহ

The Beginning of a Journey

A time comes in everyonersquos life when once settled down with a

decent roof over our heads and a delightful circle of friends amp

family around us we pause and ponder on how can we give

back to the society in general and our community in

particular and also to our roots the land we grew up in This

thought of doing something for the community and giving back

with sustainability brought a group of like minded individuals

together to form Agomoni

At Agomoni we are committed to bringing people together

giving them a reason to smile and have fun together through

organizing community events that promote peace harmony

and well-being Inspired by these guiding principles at Agomoni

we organize a variety of events that benefit the community and

celebrate our diverse cultures From organizing food drives

cleaning up the local parks to something as simple as planning a

fun hike in the neighborhood we are committed to the well-

being of one and all

Durga Puja or Devi Navratri is the largest festival of the Indian

subcontinent It is the glorious triumph of good over evil

celebration of Shakti or divine power Agomoni is the welcome

song of Divinity ndash an auspicious arrival blessed with divine

grace

Durga puja is the first major event organized by Agomoni We

are fortunate to have participation from members from all over

the Bay Area Not only that community leaders and local

businesses have provided us with the much needed

encouragement for which we are extremely grateful What

starts with a traditional celebration of Durga puja soon

becomes a socio-cultural-gastronomical extravaganza here at

Agomoni

We hope that this event provides a solid foundation to building

a strong partnership with the local community as we continue

our journey beyond 2017 and look forward to your continued

participation and enthusiasm in the years ahead

I was the only one who stopped and listened And watched the sky as it glistened

A million raindrops fell to the ground Making a lively yet soothing sound

And then it sang such a pleasing song Itrsquoll stay with me my whole life long It seemed every single passing cloud

Were chanting words of hope and love And the joyous earth spread her arms

And smiled at the skies above Listen to the sound of every drop

As each one falls with a plop Onto grassy plains and sandy dunes

Churning out the loveliest tunes The thunderstorm is calling me

Maybe to go out and see A flashing bolt light up the sky Or hear the winds as they fly To feel the rain on my cheeks

As cool as the snow on mountain peaks But most of all to say good byehellip

As the sun creeps back into the sky And then the storm stops wind and all

Slowly the raindrops cease to fall The clouds whisper as they roll away

ldquoIrsquoll be back another dayrdquo Now everytime I see a grey cloud I run outside and shout out loud

ldquoStop grey cloud stay for a little long My heart yearns for that lovely song

The song of the rain heard long before To see the lightning strike

And hear your deafening roar

Angkor Wat

A man-made wonder of the world

This summer we visited Angkor Wat on our way to India

Angkor Wat (means ldquoTemple Cityrdquo) is a temple complex in

Cambodia which is the largest religious monument in the

world and considered by many as one of the man-made

wonders of the world It was originally constructed as a Hindu

temple of god Vishnu by Khmer kind Suryavarman II in early

12th century and gradually transformed into a Buddhist

temple toward the end of the 12th century With new

researches including the ground-penetrating radar scanning

technology used by University of Sydney found that there are

several hundreds of temples around Angkor Wat spread

across 400sq km area and it is assumed that the local

economical and agricultural system could have supported one

million people during the peak of Khmer dynasty In 1992

Angkor Wat was declared as one of the lsquoWorld Heritage Sitersquo

by UNESCO

The nearest airport city is Seam Reap in Cambodia and you

can take one of the daily two-hour flights from Singapore

There are several good hotels close to the temple that

provide very good services to their guests and make them

feel very comfortable with airport pickups and continental

breakfast Hotel employees were very nice and took very

good care of us In general Cambodians are very polite and

friendly people and since many of them speak english it

made our stay very enjoyable If you go to Cambodia donrsquot

miss a lsquotuk-tukrsquo ride very similar lsquoto-torsquo in Kolkata but they

even carry ice cold water and cold wet towel for free to help

you with the tropical hot and humid weather

To visit Angkor Wat its better if you hire a tourist guide who

can help you customize your trip based on your time and

preference Since there are hundreds of temple to see it is

important that you pick the temples you would definitely like

to see We chose to see Angkor Wat Angkor Thom Bayon

temple and Ta Prohm temple Each temple has its own

unique architectural style and grandeur

Angkor Thom (The Great City) is one of the greatest cities of

the world of itrsquos time that supported one million people at

some point It was established in the late twelfth century by

king Jayavarman VII and it covers an area of 9 square km The

entrance gate of Angkor Thom city is depicted by classic

Hindu mythological story of ldquoSumudra Manthanrdquo In fact

snakes are pretty common theme (especially as a ldquoprotectorrdquo

of the temple) at any temple in the whole of Angkor Wat

complex

At the centre of the Angkor Thom city is Jayavarmanrsquos state

temple the Bayon The Prasat Bayon temple is most famous

because of its four-faced statues made out of big stones and

considered to be one of the most popular iconic images used

worldwide We were speechless looking at these huge four

headed statues and thinking how anybody could build so

many of such complex stone sculptures without any modern

technologies

Ta Prohm temple was built in 12th century is approximately

one km east of Angkor Thom The photogenic and

atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins

and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkorrsquos

most popular temples with visitors UNESCO inscribed Ta

Prohm on the World Heritage List in 1992 The restoration

work of Ta Prohm temple is being jointly carried out by

Archeological Survey of India and APSARA (Authority for the

Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of

Siem Reap)

The Angkor night market at Seam Reap is bustling with many

people and a must see for any tourist This market only opens

in night and there is so much to explore and buy The prices

are very reasonable and you can also bargain to reduce

further They have many pretty things to buy such as

necklaces fans and even rice paintings clothes memento

and all are local made and support local economy We also

visited Angkor museum that takes you back literally to 8th to

15th century Khmer dynasty It also made us feel amazing to

be in a room with literally thousand Buddhas

We also came to know that several well-known Hollywood

movies and documentaries are based on Angkor Wat and

several other temples The most popular ones are lsquoLaura

Croftrsquos Tomb Raiderrsquo lsquoLost City of Angkor Watrsquo by National

Geographic lsquoAngkor Redecouvertrsquo by ARTE of France and

lsquoJungle Atlantisrsquo by BBC We promised our self to watch those

movies and documentaries when we come back to US

What a delightful and historical trip that will remain in our

mind for a long time

একটা অদভত অবরণীে ভাল লাগার অনভড়ত ছড়িধে থাধক আননদ

কধর পধিা কাটাধনার মনতরড়শকষা বাবার ছথধকই পাওো আবছা মধন পধর

একটা বাধস চাড়পধে বাবা ড়নধে ছেত ঠাকর ছেখধত তারপর ছেখতাম

পিার পরড়তটা ড়েন যধর একটার পর একটা মণডপ পড়রিমা কধর

কলকাতাধক চধষ ছফলধত মানষটির অেমে আগরহধক আর ছসই আগরহ

যার কধর ড়নধে আমার িীবধনও অদভতভাধব িােগা কধর ড়নল পিা

ছেখধত ছেখধত িীবধনর অধনক পড়রবতগ ন হধে ছগধছ কলকাতার পধিা আি আর শয পধিা নে এক আটগ গোলাড়র এধকর পর এক ছেধখ চলা

ড়শলপকমগ পড়ঞজকা অনোেী পি চার বা ড়তন ড়েধনর হধলও কলকাতার

পধিা মহালো ছথধকই শর হধে োে আর আড়মও এই বোপাধর বাপ কা

বোটা ড়কনত হধলই বা কমগসধি একটা পিার দবােশীর ড়েধন পাড়ি ড়েলাম

নতন ছেধশ ছফরার টিড়কট কড়রধে ড়নধে ড়ফরধতই হধব পধরর বছর

পধিার আধগ পধিার সমে কলকাতার বাইধর থাধক োরা তারা বাঙাড়ল

িাড়তর অপমান তখধনা িাড়ননা আমার এই েধলর অনতগগত হধত মাি

একটা বছর বাড়ক এখনও পড়রষকার মধন আধছ এরকমই এক পিাধত

Banarasi

My dad was only five years old when my grandpa bought

our house in this South Calcutta neighborhood South

Calcutta meaning anywhere south of Esplanade was

mostly a village at that time More woods than houses

ponds around every corner narrow uneven streets pitch

dark after seven in the evening you could even hear a

jackal in the eerie hours of night That was more than sixty

years ago

Just like human neighborhoods too grow up Some of the

older residents sold their houses and moved elsewhere

Some of the old timers were no more Others who

remained accepted the waves of change that came with

the passage of time Thus looking back at my childhood I

remember at least a hundred houses in place of the dozen

odd ones from my dads young age Ponds were no longer

to be seen Stretches of woods lost their battle to bricks

and concrete Jackals and ducks moved further south to the

real villages We were no longer the south suburbsrsquo we

were Calcutta very much in it The only person who

reminded of the simpler times of bygone days was

Banarasi

Banarasi was the old cook at the yellow-three-storied-

house-round-the-corner Her husband hailed from Banaras

thus when he brought his newlywed wife to Kolkata the

womenfolk never thought twice before calling the young

teenager bride Banarasi Apparently it never occurred to

anyone that the poor young girl could even have a name of

her own That was a really long time ago even before my

grandpa bought our house in this neighborhood

No one now knew how old Banarasi is Very few bothered

Even when my mom came to this house as a new bride

Banarasi had all white hair and black teeth Now this brings

me to the appearance of Banarasi About five foot tall little

thicker than a stick very dark complexion few strands of

white jute like hair and tobacco stained dirty teeth Little

similarity with a Banarasi saree huh Well that is how she

looked five years ago twenty five years ago and if I am to

decide probably even fifty years ago

Her husband died years before I was born The family that

employed her as a cook sold their house and moved to

another city Banarasi was very hopeful that mashima (ie

her landlady) will take her with them Evidently the

mashima did not share her sentiments and did not think

twice before completely abandoning her without a job or

even a roof over her head Neighbors felt pity someone

offered her cash to buy a train ticket and go back to

Banaras but she declined This was her home She didnt

even remember the village she left at fifteen years of age

Finally the new owners of the yellow-three-storied-house-

round-the-corner offered help They allowed her to stay in

the outhouse No cooks job no money That was almost

thirty years ago

Looking back at it it is amazing how she survived She lived

happily in the crumbling old outhouse with a pit toilet doing

chores for the neighborhood women One day she made

pickle for the Banerjees next day she helped put together a

comforter for the Das family Mornings she took

neighborhood kids to school and afternoons did groceries

for the elderly

School life came and went We went on our different paths

If we met Banarasi on our way to work we smiled at her

how are you hardly waiting for her to answer Often we

pushed a ten rupee note in her palms and said buy some

sweets Her eyes moistened By the time she wiped them

with her torn pallu we were already gone leaving her in the

middle of the road with a mint fresh note in her soiled

hands

One year I was extremely lucky to manage some PTOs and

went home for the Durga puja On Saptami evening all

childhood friends gathered in our local Durga puja pandal

and reminisced of old times That is where I heard Banarasirsquos

name after almost a decade

lsquoBanarasi Is she still aliversquo Mili blurted out lsquoWell seems

like you guys dont know the latestrsquo Babloo elaborated

Apparently the yellow-three-storied-house-round-the-

corner was again put up for sale The buyers did not want

Banarasi and her outhouse as a part of the deal The local

political party somehow got involved and finally the seller

had to lower the price while the buyer had to agree to let

Banarasi stay at the outhouse These days Banarasi sweeps

the floor of the party office every day for free and in return

the party workers take care of her (ie keep an eye if she is

dead or alive) We were amazed We were spell bound

Ultimately we felt relieved - At least someone is looking

after her

Durga puja was over Before long it was the last day before

my flight Mom was making my favorite kachoris when the

phone rang It was Munni lsquoBanarasi is deadrsquo

Irsquod be lying if I said I was overwhelmed with grief when I

heard the news Maybe because it was so sudden may be

because I was disconnected from Banarasi for so long ndash but

fact of the matter is I could not feel a thing An enormous

emotional vacuum engulfed me as I held the phone to my

ears while not hearing a word Munni was saying ldquoCan you

come down to the outhouse We are all going there nowrdquo

she said finally A visit to the outhouse After almost 25

years Mom turned the gas off I slipped on my sandals

As I reached there with a growingly heavy heart I could not

comprehend what I saw There were at least three trucks full

of men Party festoons flowers incense sticks - as if some big

political leader has passed away As I pushed myself through

the crowd I saw Chintoo standing in a corner He told me

about the drama that has been unfolding in the last couple of

hours Banarasi failed to sweep the party office yesterday

When she did not turn up even today someone came to

check on her and found her dead They called a doctor who

said she has probably died last night Immediately the local

councilor was paged It became an event for the ruling

political party With election coming up soon it was the

perfect opportunity to reinforce their gareeb-ka-bandhu

image Of course we had to pay respects by emptying our

wallets to the donation box

The funeral procession was talk of the town for years

Banarasi who was mostly an invisible entity for the most

part of her life made quite a stir after her death Her last

journey caused a messy traffic jam in the main road during

rush hours made local shopkeepers very upset who had to

voluntarily donate all the things needed for the funeral and

last but not the least made a dent in the post-puja month-

end household budget of the middleclass neighbors

As the funeral procession left for the burning ghaat

Chintoo Munni Puja and I turned to go home The

outhouse stood alone in shambles behind us All of

Banarasis worldly possessions were being taken to the

party office She did not have a lot - only a broken trunk a

few old torn clothes a worn out blanket and a framed

black and white photograph It was taken decades ago

during a kangali bhojan event organized by the Durga puja

committee In the picture Banarasi was squatting in the

middle with a plate full of khichdi and surrounding her

were a bunch of happy kids If you look really close you

may identify Puja on her right Chintoo beside Puja and me

on the extreme left

That very moment gone was the vacuum and I burst into

tears

The Day Football Died

No it did not happen in a day The death has been a

slow one And no globally the game of football is

not dead in most places It is doing better than ever

Alive and kicking But Bengals football and Bengali

passion about it died in the eighties An eyewitness

account of that tragic death follows

I am not quite sure what the opening scene of my

nostalgic Bengali football film will be but the

soundtrack will definitely have the line Mohun

Bagan maatth theke Ajay Basu bolchhi (Ajay Basu

speaking from Mohun Bagan football ground)

somewhere in it Even today that one line uttered in

a resonant voice on Calcutta A station (Medium

Wave Frequency 657 Meters 4566) from those

pre-DoorDarsharn days evokes a lot of happy

memories of excitement and apprehension Even

after DoorDarshan with a logo that uncannily

resembles a football had started broadcasting the

major football matches and some friendly kids rich

dad had finally managed to purchase the first

Sonodyne BampW TV set of the neighborhood one had

to fall back to good old All India Radio for the minor

matches That one line would also reveal everything

you ever needed to know about a Bengali religion

(hint not Mohammedan Sporting Club ground) on

which side of a fateful 2216 kms line their

grandparents grew up (hint not East Bengal

ground) and consequently the most important bit -

their epicurean preferences Life was simple back

then Bengali families with both ghoti and bangal

members were not unheard of but the frequency of

such anomalies was as greatly exaggerated as

reports of Mark Twains death were However the

reports of manslaughter and suicides in those hybrid

families during and after a Mohun Bagan-East Bengal

match were entirely accurate

Calcutta football was not just about the three big

clubs Clubs like Aryans George Telegraph Eastern

Railways Port Trust Tollygunge Agragami and Bally

Protibha played a very important role in a vibrant

football scene grooming budding talent providing

jobs to footballers and coaches stimulating fan

following in villages small towns and offices and

snatching those occasional but all-important points

from the big three The Mohun Bagan-East Bengal

League match however was the D-day - the

unofficial final match in a round robin Calcutta

League of twenty-odd teams Quite often both of

them would make it to the finals of national

knockout tournaments like IFA Shield Durand Cup

Rovers Cup and Federation Cup as well Those were

the days when streets of West Bengal suburbs and

villages would be empty and stores would drop

shutters hours before the match started Flags were

bought and Abir leftovers from Dol (Holi) were dug

out in eager anticipation During the match one

could hear the commentary in any part of a town

even when they were not carrying a radio with

them In those pre-Jubo-Bharati-Krirangan days in

Calcutta more people would gather outside the

Mohun Bagan and East Bengal Maidan grounds than

what could fit inside the stadium With pocket radios

turned on at full volume and held right next to their

eardrums they would excitedly wait for those four

magic letters g-o-a-l Which side scored that illusive

goal would determine the price of Ilish and Chingri

maachh for next several days As George Bernard

Shaw wisely noted a Ghoti and his Fish are

intricately tied For me a die-hard Mohun Bagan

supporter but a closet Ilish fan a Mohun Bagan

victory brought with it the sweet bonus of Gangas

fresh Ilish at a bargain price

and nationalism Bengali fiction and non-fiction

writing by the likes of amazingly gifted Moti Nandy

in magazines like Khela Khelar Asar and

Anandamela reinforced those folklores

Unfortunately it all slowly fell apart in the eighties It

started with the live broadcast of world cup football

and the introduction of Jawharlal Nehru Gold

Cup 1982 was the first world cup broadcast live by

DoorDarshan and in the middle of enjoying Zicos

brilliance Maradonas promise of future greatness

Rossis opportunism and an epic France-West

Germany semifinal - dawned a painfully sad

realization there was a very wide gulf between

Calcutta Maidan and the best of world football The

reality was driven home more directly and ruthlessly

in the Jawharlal Nehru Gold cup invitational

tournament which also started in 1982 Studded

with world-cupper studs those teams started to

pummel our gods mercilessly All of a sudden Bidesh

Boses run on the left wing Surojit Senguptas body

swerves and the crosses from the right wing

Krishanu Deys dribbles Sishir Ghoshs headers and

Prasun Banerjees left-footed free-kicks lost their

magic And a year later on the same Sonodyne set

we watched eleven Indians performing a new

magic at Lords and suddenly transforming a

leisurely game of rich and elitist Indians into a

national obsession The world of Calcutta football

was never quite the same again

To think of football as merely 22 hirelings

kicking a ball is merely to say that a violin is

wood and cat-gut Hamlet so much ink and

paper It is conflict and art - JB Priestly

True but it is a game too - with a winner and a loser

It is not possible to get excited and passionate about

a team that always loses loses big and while losing

does not even look like playing the same game as

the best in the business is playing A Bengali did not

have to shun his Ray and Ghatak when he discovered

Truffaut and Buntildeuel He could effortlessly switch

between his Tagore and Eliot But after watching the

World Cup Jawharlal Nehru Gold cup and Indian

one-day cricket triumphs on the screens of

DoorDarshan he could never again find the same

passion about football

No Baichung Bhutiyas brief stint at a third-tier

Manchester Bury does not redeem anything Any

Mohun Bagani worth his salt knows that Chuni

Goswami had an offer from Tottenham Hotspur in

the 60s He refused because Mohun Bagan back then

was much stronger than the Spurs -) and in Calcutta

he was treated like a god - a god mightier than even

the great Uttam Kumar He was also a decent Ranji

player but never wanted to improve his cricket and

make it to the national side because cricket was not

important enough So after breaking his knee while

playing football when a certain teenager decided to

switch to cricket in late eighties - it was not only the

best career move by a Bengali since Michael

Madhusudan and Bankim Chandra gave up writing in

English it also epitomized the end of an era

HelloBots Brings the Fun of LEGO

Robotics to the San Jose

Community Labanya Mukhopadhyay Grade 12

As the world around us advances through the world of technology it is likely that future generations will depend on technology as a main necessity in life But how will these young generations know what the future has in store for them without getting the proper exposure at a young age I currently a senior at Evergreen Valley High School was drawn into robotics from my fourth grade I noticed that robotics was an activity that only privileged children had access to and girls steered away from it due to preconceived misconceptions As a captain of an all-girls FTC robotics team in school I observed how robotics could open up a new dimension of knowledge and could change onersquos attitude towards science and education That inspired me to start the HelloBots LEGO robotics program in the summer of 2015 for the ethnically diverse and primarily immigrant children in San Jose This was the first LEGO robotics program for the students of Alum Rock community

HelloBots organizes 5 to 6 weeks workshops for 4 - 8th grade children about how to build and program a robot using Lego Mindstorm completely free of cost I am fortunate to have received great support and inspiration from San Jose Branch librarians and local elementary and middle school principals to make this a successful program HelloBots runs workshops at five Public Branch Libraries and after-school classes at two public

school districts in San Jose We arranged an all-girls workshop called ldquoHelloBots for Herrdquo with an aim to encourage more young girls to the world of technology and robotics So far HelloBots served more than 500 children from San Jose and beyond and also offers Advanced level workshops where children with basic robotics knowledge can explore further This program has been recognized by the City of San Jose with a commendation from the Mayor Sam Liccardo and last Vice Mayor Rose Herrera for the contribution to San Jose community According to Diana Learned a librarian at the Alum Rock Public Library ldquoThe HelloBots program has been successful and brought a new high-tech offering to the low-income primarily immigrant community served in the Alum Rock areardquo HelloBots is a proud recipient of generous grants from San Jose chapter of Awesome Foundation and National Center for Women amp Information Technology (NCWIT) HelloBots has organized an exciting LEGO Robothon a fun robotics competition for 4-8 grade students in the summer of 2016 and 2017 Here participants could use their imaginations to build and program a robot in teams with guidance from instructors and compete for prizes in a friendly setting All attendees won prizes and certificates personally signed by the last Vice Mayor Rose Herrera and District 8 Councilwoman Sylvia Arenas These events were sponsored by San Jose Mayorrsquos office and many local businesses This Robothon is the first of its kind in San Jose to foster STEM education to our youth in the most fun and creative way possible LEGO robotics Hellobots have grown now to a strong team of ten dedicated volunteers We are determined to reach out to every child in San Jose and beyond For more information about the Robothon upcoming sessions volunteering opportunities and donations please visit wwwhellobotscom a non-profit organization registered in California

Agomoni A Philanthropic Endeavor

Manas Goswami

Less than six months back a small group of like-minded families came together and initiated an effort to bring

smiles back to the people in their local and global communities Although we are a nascent organization with

limited resources and experience we thrive on our dreams to make a difference in the lives of people-in-need

across the globe

Agomoni welcomes all to our first major event in September 2017 ndash ldquoDurga pujardquo ndash the celebration of autumn

which is observed across India under different names Our primary objective for this event is to bring the

community together to celebrate Indian culture and heritage As part of this effort we are providing a platform for

the community to promote cultural talents and interests ndash almost 100 participants from the community will

perform over the two days We will continue hosting such events throughout the year to raise awareness about

Indian heritage and culture

One of our primary guiding principles is to give back to the community at large More than ever in the history of

humankind the world is in a major humanitarian crisis

bull One billion people do not have access to safe drinking water impacting approximately 16th of the worldrsquos population primarily across Africa and other under-developed regions (source ldquoRyanrsquos Well Foundationrdquo)

bull Approximately one billion adults are illiterate and 150 million children lack access to basic education pushing their population below the poverty line (source ldquoCompassion Internationalrdquo)

bull More than half-a-million people are homeless just in the US and more than 13 of the states reported continuous increase of homelessness (source ldquoNational Alliance to End Homelessnessrdquo)

Agomoni as an organization is fully committed to be part of the worldwide philanthropic movement to eradicate

human suffering and make the world a better place We plan to fulfill the mission utilizing the following avenues

Directly supporting local community ndash our first step towards the goal is to get involved with the tri-valley

community and support local charitable drives We will support these causes both financially and by volunteering

actively Agomoni members have already participated in following activities donation of essential items (books

toys etc) to the Salvation Army to help children in need and volunteering at Open Heartrsquos kitchen to provide

healthy meals to homeless people in local communities We will support community members in need directly as

well ndash for example providing scholarships to underprivileged students to carry on with their educational

opportunities

Supporting Charitable Organizations ndash With our limited funds this year we have already started discussion with

the charitable organizations (domestic and international) for possible collaboration opportunities For the time

being we are exploring to support causes for clean drinking water basic education reduction of human trafficking

special needs like autism etc Agomoni members also raised and donated a significant amount to Red Cross to

support the relief effort for Harvey victims

Directly-managed philanthropic projects ndash In the long run Agomoni will directly fund and manage execution of

charitable activities at both domestic and international locations For example we may help build a school in an

underdeveloped area of India or African sub-continent to ensure basic education for children
