ANSYSTutorial:SubmodelinginANSYSV14.5SubmodelingisaspecialfeatureinANSYS14.5thatpreviouslywasrestrictedtoMechanicalAPDL.Theaimistoproducesatisfactoryresultsinaspecificregionwhereinaccurateresultshavebeenobtained.Forinstance,coarsemeshmaynotgivesufficientaccuratestressresults.Therefore,bycreatingasubmodelontheregionofinterest,newresultsmaybeachieved.Inprincipal,thedisplacementscalculatedonthecutboundariesofthecoarsemodelaremappedontothesubmodel.Notonlyaremoreaccurateresultsthebenefitofthisapplication,butalsothepossibilityofexperimentingwithdifferentdesignsfortheregionofinterest.Inaddition,ithelpsyouindemonstratingthedependencyofmeshrefinement.Themechanicalapplicationallowssubmodelingforstructural(stress)andthermalanalyses.
Figure1Thefirstthingyoudoistorunyouranalysisasnormal.Makeacopyoftheoriginalgeometryandcreateasubmodel.Itisimportanttohaveinmindthattheglobalcoordinatesystemmustbeexactlythesameforboththecoarseandsubmodeltomakethetransferreddisplacementmatch.Afterrunningthesolutionofyourcoursemodel,youdraganddropthesolutionintothesetup.Now,submodelingwillappearunderStaticstructuralinyournewMechanicalsubmodelwindow,seefigure2.YourprojectpageshouldlooksimilartoFigure1.
