SELECTED PROJECTS IN THE AREA OF WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKS (1)

• CADENUS (FP5-IST): The CADENUS project proposed an integrated solution for the creation, configuration and provisioning of end-user services with QoS guarantees in Premium IP networks. The solution is based on the CADENUS framework, which is a structuring set of core functional blocks at the user - provider interface.

• NETQOS (FP6-IST): Project proposed an autonomous policy-based management for wired/wireless heterogeneous communications networks aimed to provide enhanced end-to-end QoS and efficient resource utilisation.

SELECTED PROJECTS IN THE AREA OF WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKS (2)

• DaVinci -- Design and Versatile implementation of nonbinary wireless communications based on innovative LDPC codes (FP7-ICT): Project aimed at developing new technologies targeting future B3G or 4G wireless broadband transmission systems such as IEEE 802.16e/m, and 3GPP-LTE.

• FI-STAR -- Future Internet Social and Technological Alignment Research (FP7-ICT):

• Project established early trials in the Health Care domain building on Future Internet (FI) technology leveraging on the outcomes of FI-PPP Phase 1.

• In order to meet the requirements of a global Health industry FI-STAR used a fundamentally different, "reverse" cloud approach that is; it proposed bringing the software to the data, rather than bringing the data to the software (use of generic enablers).

QoEST4CM -- QoE SupporT for improved Crisis Management

• Open Call within RAWFIE -- Road-, Air- and Water- based Future Internet Experimentation project (Call: FIRE+ -- Future Internet Research Experimentation)

• The project is focused on evaluating key enablers that shall guarantee successful integration of the drones with the crisis management software.

• We are bringing in-house SW solutions from the area of context-based video adaptation in the uplink direction, as well as cellular networks coverage mapping and probing, and aim at deploying it on the drones.

CAVICO -- Context-Aware Video Controller for autonomous transport and security monitoring

• Open Call within 5GINFIRE -- Evolving FIRE into a 5G-Oriented Experimental Playground for Vertical industries project (Call: Future Internet Experimentation - Building a European experimental Infrastructure).

• The project aims at pushing the boundaries of the QoE-aware adaptive streaming by introducing the context-aware mechanisms that can use no-reference, context-based QoE metric subsets to allow a single system to cope with many use scenarios (e.g. operating automated car remotely).

• Such a system can be supported by dedicated VxF that can optimize the streaming in the function of QoS and QoE parameters.

• Cognitive resource control and service adaptation (cross-layer, context driven, machine learning based, QoE/QoS),
