The girl, who had a history of arteriovenous malformation, started treatment with oxcarbazepine 100mg three times daily. On day 15 of therapy, she presented with a desquamative, pruritic, erythematous skin eruption involving her face, neck, chest, arms and legs. Oxcarbazepine was immediately stopped and replaced with sodium valproate. Her symptoms resolved within 7 days following treatment with antihistamines and corticosteroids. She was then prescribed phenytoin, which was well tolerated. Subsequently, patch testing was positive for oxcarbazepine (+), carbamazepine (+) and phenytoin (+). Bueso Fernandez A, et al.
