Hypersensitivity in a paediatric patient: case reportA 17-year-old girl developed a hypersensitivity reaction after
initiation of oxcarbazepine [therapeutic indication not stated].The girl, who had a history of arteriovenous malformation,started treatment with oxcarbazepine 100mg three times daily.On day 15 of therapy, she presented with a desquamative,pruritic, erythematous skin eruption involving her face, neck,chest, arms and legs. Oxcarbazepine was immediatelystopped and replaced with sodium valproate. Her symptomsresolved within 7 days following treatment with antihistaminesand corticosteroids. She was then prescribed phenytoin,which was well tolerated. Subsequently, patch testing waspositive for oxcarbazepine (+), carbamazepine (+) andphenytoin (+).Bueso Fernandez A, et al.
