Worsening of agitation treated with citalopram: casereport
An 84-year-old woman developed worsening of agitationduring treatment with lorazepam and was eventually treatedwith citalopram.
The woman who was acutely hospitalised due to physicalaggression and somatic delusion, received lorazepam [routeand dosage not stated]. She had also received risperidone,haloperidol and quetiapine. Later, it was found that lorazepamworsened the agitation [duration of treatment to reaction onsetnot stated].
The woman was treated with citalopram 10mg twice dailyon admission, later increased to 15mg twice daily and within72 hours, the agitation decreased dramatically. She wasdischarged soon. Later, on a follow-up, she was found in goodbehavioural control.
