Flurazeparn CholestaUc Jaundice A 44-year-old woman had taken 3Qrng fiurazepam at bedtime for I) months. She was admitted to hospital with a I O·day history of anortllia, nausea and abdominal pain, pruritus. and jaundice. She had no fever. rash or joint pains. Serum bilirubin. glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, alkaline pbosphatase and gamma·glutamyJ transpeptidase values were· all elevated. Her previous medical and social history showed no contributory cause. Tests ror infectious mononucleosis and hepatitis B surface antigen were negative. Liver biopsy showed changes consistent with acute intrahepatic cholestasis with mild hepatocellular injury. F\urazepam was withdrawn on admis .... ion and symptoms abated. One month later clinical and biochemical values had normalised. A rechaltenge wa.., not considered ethical. Reynolds.
