Reactions 1430 - 1 Dec 2012 S Antineoplastics Oral mucositis and anorexia in an elderly patient: case report An 85-year-old man developed oral mucositis and anorexia while receiving cisplatin, gimeracil/oteracil/tegafur [S-1] and docetaxel. The man, who had gastric cancer with pulmonary and lymph node metastases, received two courses of gimeracil/ oteracil/tegafur and cisplatin as fourth-line chemotherapy, followed by three courses of docetaxel as fifth-line treatment [dosages and routes not stated]. The treatment was ineffective, and he developed grade 3 mucositis oral and anorexia [time to reaction onsets not stated]. His canker sores made feeding difficult, and he was hospitalised for further treatment. Chemotherapy was discontinued, and the man received best supportive care. His canker sores resolved, and his quality of life improved.
