V.'8 got a "big "bang" out of Conley's Pitro-Glycarino Triolets, especially Ealphie. Heran and produced a verie from ^-Tl^Tl

77ho is this new Harry Gordon? W© dunno - ask Margo!

DXing is a gamble. So gsar/oling at a DX Convention was only a natural. It started atlaidnight Saturday and ended up when the aun can^ u^j Sunday laomlngl But - no Dx!

Oh there was somo DX on the Collins, after the gang returned from WACB. It was donsby those \7ith less sporting blood - and less money too, probably,

Saturdaj' night was also Food Night, Dick spread out the cold cuts, and then hespread out hin.6el f ,

Gordon claimed that Lefty ate $2,90 worth of sandwiches, and consuiaed over $4.00 inbeer. His rebuttal w^s, "I ".vas ^ust being sociable."

Hov^rd Kemp kept busy eyeing verifications, Siiddenly he found hinself eyeing Sullyover a poker hand, and Howie was set for the rest of the night.

Dick Cooper is essentially- a nice fellow. He says he ^vouldn't mis-lead anybody, except a t poker, o f course.

No ore would say who won and v/ho lost in that poker party, but Howard Kemp was stillsmiling at 6:00 a.m. laiphie didn't exactly bubble'over, though - sort of like anAlka-Se l tzer tha t , ins tead o f fizz ing , fi i i l ed t

First culinary item to run out was the Canadian Bacon. Seeir.s no one would volunteerto go up to Canada for some more*.

Speaking of cards, Harry Gordon hed a dehk with him with plenty of eye-filling pictures, ?/ith a pack like that, why play cards?

We Won't ss^r who went to the cleaners, but Dick v/as observed banging on the localta i lo r 's door ear ly Sunday morn ing.

Everybody didn't play cards. The clean-living set all ventured out to WAC3»s transmitter. Speed-boy Pelletier drove oar #1 and proceeded to lose Prdd's car #2 sonie-where in the woods across the Al lejheny Hiver,

Somebody ia Fred's car sufr^ested we look for V/ACB's tower li^ts. Then Lefty turnedaround and spotted thetr. about fcvo miles behind them!

If you think WAC3 is a country station, you're right! A one-csir-wide bvaapy dirtroad led up to the top of the mountain pealc where they built their transnitter, Weare told the light on the top of the mast is to warn flying angels of danger.

Their sign-on theme ou^t to be, "High on a VJinfty Hill."

.7e were surprised the next morning to hec^r WACB backfl on the air - after about a dozen DXers >1^*1 been poking around in their transmitter nnich of the night,

Finally Joe showed us the receiver, and turned it on. Click - click - every second!••'he blinking top tower li^t v/as doing it - so iJee calmly tucned it off!

•^■^ext move was to connect V/ACB's 200-foot to'.7er to the receiver and the volvme jtmp^dip trgciendously, Lefty suggested to Joe that donate the tower as first prize in,he 1951-1952 NBC DX Contest, but Joe was completely non-co-operative:

3ii ar^body tsike anything, you ask? Yes - Joe Pelletier himself did. He took therecording e

  • _K KJ£_4 ~Young Don Kaskey cans© from the furthest diatance. He seeced so yotmg he raist haveb e e n h o r n o n t h e w e y.

    He had a co l lec t ion o f 1 ,000 ver ies garnered in a l i t t l e under one fu l l year, A rel ig ious chap he -> he read in the Bihle th is Passage, "A l i t t le chi ld shal l lead theic^ '

Little? Wa founi out how gets so many stations. He doesn't need a radio - hejuet reaches out and pulls the stations in with his "bare Vandal

    So the WACB party rolled down the mountain and back to Dick's ganbling den where thecard game was jus t ge t t ing ro l l ing , a t about 3 :30 a .K* D3y l i ; :h t Sav ing , o f course .

    Su l l y Su l l i van Ima a haad fo r poker. That ' s w iy they ca l l h im "Poksr -Face. "

Carroll Seth continued to be the butt of most of the quips, (^uoth Sully, "EobertBurns and Shakespeare I can live • ith - but Seth I can do without."

Len Xruse was all for hitting the sack at this tioe. He hadn't gotten up until 1:30p.m, Saturds-y and was bushed already. This eastern life must be too fast for him!

Want a drink guaranteed to put you to sleep? Tiy Gordon's Grapefruit Juice, preparedfrom a secret formula froa the back of "Old ?Iargo's" head.

It' l l put you to sleep, all right. He hasn't yet concocted a wake-up potion, thou^.

Bob Gorsuch now turned on the $975.00 Collins, It was placed on top of a Hot-Pointin Dick's living room, Lenny renarked it was the first Hot-Point radio he had evers e e n .

The air was exceedingly noisy, but no one complained. After all, who ^ts the opportunity of hearing $975,00 static every day?

Well, finally the tired DXers gave up the ghost and retiired. Lefty bunked with Carroll Seth, Said ie next morning, "It was like sleeping in a box of Shredded T/heatI"

    Next night Carroll decided to bunk rith Hal \7agner. This was very good news for Left y. H a l w a s t i c k l e d , t o o .

Next item on the agenda vvas the meeting of the Cominfoim (Board of Directors). V/ecan't print too much about this which is no great loss to aryone.

When Lefly got into Dick's DX-den-bedroom, all the chairs were taken. So he sprawledout on the bed. He had to be awakeded four times during the :.»eting.

An NRC First occurred at this nseting. It was the first time a non-Board Iifember wasinvited to sit in. This was Bob Gorsuch, conccttor of this year's novel DX Contest. He came to "Lobby for his Hobby."

All felt Bob had a dandy idea, so the contest was accepted over any other. Onlything waa - there weren't any others sucmittedl

When one of these sessions gets started, onlj' one thing can end them - and that ishunger, and it did the trick once again, very effectivSly.
